Well guys, just got back from an afternoon visit to Music Live at the NEC and I have to say how disappointed I was with it this year. There seemed to be far fewer exhibitors this year, one noticeable absentee especially was MARSHALL who normally have quite a large stand, with Jim there himself signing autographs for anyone that wanted one, but NOT this year. Almost all the stands appeared to be on a smaller scale, with only BOSS / Roland having a very large display area. The Fender stand was a lot smaller than usual too. I was also disappointed by the reduced number of smaller retailers attending the show as this is normally where the real bargains can be had. My local retailer here in Nuneaton, Brams Music Store, told me that he wasn't bothering this year as the cost of the stand outweighed the number of sales that he made last year. He said that people were only really interested in buying a few cheap sets of strings, leads, or stands, and that despite the fact that he took a long a great selection of both vintage and new guitars he only sold a couple.
The highlights of the day ..... well the guys doing the demo's on the Line6 stand were quite impressive at putting the XT Live, Variax, Variax Bass and Acoustic through there paces. Jamie Humphries rocking out some good stuff on the MusicMan stand but that was about it.
Sound Control the large Birmingham based retailer had there normal presence, with quite a few offers on. Discounted prices on end of line hard disk recorders from Boss, some behringer mixers and a few keyboards, but not that many good discounts to be had.
I actually went with a budget of 1000 pounds to spend, either on some new or maybe not so new gear. Nothing in mind in particular, maybe a guitar, maybe some effects or even some recording kit. Alas I came away empty handed !!!!
All in all a disappointing day and a waste of the 7 quid parking charge and the 14 quid entrance fee. Knowing what I know now, I really wish I hadn't have bothered ...... a real waste of time.
Neal.
I think guitarzone went today!
I wanted to check it out, but after seeing motorhead with guitarzone and stacey keach sorry tony4552 last night i wasn't in a fit state today!

I've hired stand space at the NEC before (nothing to do with guitars!) and it costs a bloody fortune, stand space, shell scheme, power etc so you have to be either brave or assured that you are going to sell a shed load of gear just to pay for it, let alone make some profit! The NEC organisers reall suck!

Agree with ZappaFan - just got back from Music Live - pretty crap! Organic guitars were busy, which is cool, but as mentioned not too many exhibitors there. Problem? 2 fold. I NEC is fookin expensive, and 2 - the whole event is controlled/run by Soundcontrol. A few stack 'em high, sell 'em cheap stuff but that's it.
From a business point of view made some useful contacts but overall won't be going again. £14 in & £7 parking on top of £50 petrol don't help either. Or night after watching Motorhead/drinking Caffreys with Rick & Stacey, sorry Tony, and getting up at 6.30 didn't help either!!
But hey, ZappaFan - you want to visit GuitarZone with your budget not only will you not be dissappointed, but you may leave with some change!!!

Just another shameless plug!! (no!! Surely not Chris! Whatever next etc...)
Gonna be stocking Bare Knuckle Pickups, as well as current Seymour Duncans, and also going to be adding a new amp range - maybe Vox, as a result of some meetings at Music Live. What was that? Keep us informed? Yes of course I will. Silly!

Just to let you know. I currently have the following .....
Heritage H150 custom (Les Paul)
USA Texas Fat Strat
Epiphone Sheraton
plus sundry acoustics and stuff .....
when I went to the show I was looking for a floyd rose equipped axe, thought it was about time I joined the clan, but was amazed at the vast differnces there was in price. Not really shure what to look for !! They had some Ibanez jobbies from as little as 185 quid on ths Fairdeal Music stand, which model/s Makes should I be looking at with a 1000 quid budget. Wzard necks and all that, whwre do I start ???
go on ebay and get an rg550/570 second hand 200-250 they have an egde floyd and are great for the cash!
or and this isn't a plug for guitarzone try a maverick, chris has one and its probably on my want list, the only thing i don't like about it is the weird knobs

I have tried the Mavericks don't like the control layout either. They are great players though. I'm not keen on buying from ebay, would prefer to "try before I buy" even though 200-250 isn't that much, still wouldn't want to throw it away. What's all this about the differnt necks and stuff, dont really know what the best / worst of these is ?

Apart from Mavericks (controls sort of make more sense in some ways?) - got a Godin Freeway Floyd. These are awesome USA/Canadian built guitars and mega value and just wonderful quality. Great necks - lovely wood feel!
If you like - more than happy to send you it to try. You will be smitten!
