Hi guys this is a pic of my first "Electric" guitar ........

A Shaftesbury Telecaster .... made in Italy and "as used by" Jeff Lynne of ELO fame. I bought this for £65 back in 1973. Suppose that would equate to about a £500 quid touch now. It was a toss up between this or an Antoria Les Paul. I wondered for a while if I had made the right decision, but it's lasted the course and I still have it now. How many £65 quid guitars have lasted that long eh ?

You will notice at a glance the high levels of specification . They fail to include

Floyd Rose Trem
Locking Nut
Locking Machine Heads
Nitro Cellulose Finish
Neck Binding
Body Binding
Bird / Dragon/ Vine neck inlays.
Not a jot of abalone in sight ......
And ........... It aint PINK or Flourescent GREEN ....

However it did and still does have a great action, and still plays good. Not what you would call "Killer" tone, but usable.

Whilst typing this I have just remembered, that at the time I bought this, that I wore the same style of clothes that Steve Vai wears now. How SPOOKY is THAT !!!

6 years ago my mate gave me a HondoII les paul copy, that he had 28 years ago! Hi sfirst guitar and mine. Bloody heavy, but made of some kind of laminate. Just taken it apart to play with electrics and have a go at messing around with stuff. Pickups turn out to be DiMarzio made in USA! Doesn't mean any good mind!

Just gonna strip it and try to rebuild it. Probably make a complete dogs of it - but hey! All part of the fun!

Isn't it funny how most guitarist's first guitars are a Strat. Mine was a strat.

Took me another 29 years to get my first Strat ......... you kids ( no offence meant), you don't know how hard it was for us oldies ............ 15 of us used to have to share a set o' strings .... by eck us like lad times were harder then  Amp, we had an old transistor radio wit innards ripped out, that was our amp !!! Fuzz boxes, built me own out of an old kettle !!! and WAH_WAH pedal, had a really good Schaller one actually. Tell that to the youth of t'day and .......... :?

some other guitars i have owned on my quest for guitar perfection.

a personal fave was the red jap strat, i just don't care much for single coils any more.

the jem went on ebay, the jackson now belongs to tony.

Some cool kit you've had over the years Rick. I don't know you how you let them go. I can't bring myself to sell anything these days. Had a beatiful SG custom quite a few years ago, and the day I sold it I sobbed me socks off, but I needed the money at the time. Realise now that the SG was worth more to me than any amount of money, had some good times playin' it and would have dearly loved to have kept it. Was gonna have it nailed to the top of me coffin, .........

Sob !!! Oh well ........

What a classic bit of kit that Futurama is Farl. I got offered a very similar looking guitar the other week for £200 .......... some of you may remember these ........ a Watkins Rapier. It was absolutely mint, and for £200 pretty good as a collectors guitar, but not my cup of tea so I decided to pass on the offer. I found this pic of one on the internet. Just look at the headstock on that !!!!

Hell, that is one HUGE headstock!!!! You'd need an extra long top "E" for that beast! LOL

Wow Rick, I had one o them Destroyer II flame top 6-strings with rosewood fretboard & pearl inlays. Exactly the same as in the pic you posted. Beautiful instrument. I part-exed it in '86, together with a Gordon Smith GS-1 for a RS-525 that got nicked in '87. Wish I'd kept the DT now tho' - loved that geetar!

My first guitar though was a Hondo LP copy for my 15th birthday in '79, bolted neck and SC pups under HB covers (swindle!), then got a Ibanez Roadstar, px-ed that for an ancient Ibanez flying V (my Schenker phase). Then an Aria II LP copy, closely followed by the DT (above).

Next up after the nicked RS-525 was a Hohner ST Scorpion in '87 (Jackson Soloist lookalike), followed by an Aria-ProII Diamond (nuther Jackson lookalike). Still got that, but it's now overshadowed by an Ibanez S-470DX Quilted Maple top.

I seem to keep coming back to Ibanez, they're cool! 8-)

Hmmm..I'll have to dig up some old pics but the first guitar I ever had was a gift from my parents. I don't even think it had a brand name. Then I bought for myself a white Kramer Flying V which I had for about a week when the body started cracking so I took it back and ended up with a midnight blue Kramer Striker. I guess you could say they were all my first guitar.
The no-name is the one I learned to play Jingle Bells on the first day I had it and Rock You Like A Hurricane on the secon day :-)
