OK this is how it works.... If you want to know something, guitar related or not then ask! simple!
You can ask a specific person or just a general question for anyone to answer but.... if you answer, you must ask the next question!
Serious or not but nothing too personal please...
OK, a specific question for Khaos first:
How did you learn to play like that and can anyone get that damned slow????
i know this one, he never sleeps, never puts his guitar down, and hasn't done since not long after he could first breath.
next question.
how come siN can play the beat it solo so fooking good when i can't ????

He practises more than you!! but..... he doesn't have 6SH to run! LOL
Next!
I'm about to get out my old strat ('79 25th Anniversary) and give it a bit of a going over. Not really been used for 18 months or so, what about things like the whammy springs, string height & gauge (ha ha!), poss new pups or should I keep it original? How about the truss rod? the neck looks straight but is there a sure fire way of checking? Any thoughts?? It will be used for all styles of play BTW (well all that I can do!)
PS. I have a set of brass saddles for a Strat, anyone want them?? (FOC of course)
Two questions I know but... fire away!

I would suggest that you check out the Strat setup guide at the Fender Web Site (http://www.fender.com/support/setup/stratsetup.php) there is a lot of useful info about setups and trem adjustments. If it were mine I would certainly want to keep it original. As far as truss rod adjustment goes I would leave it alone until you have checked out all the other steps within the guides mentioned above. I have found that in most cases people go ahead and adjust the truss rod and do more harm than good. As I am sure you are aware the neck should have a slight curve rather than being dead flat. The inexperienced sometimes dive in thinking that it should be dead straight and adjust the truss rod to pull the neck back, this can render the guitar almost unplayable and IMO should only be adjusted by those experienced in guitar tech / setup. I pay a pro to do mine, he does a fantastic job, just ironing out those slight changes that occur over time, it always comes back feeling like brand new with all the notes singing out cleanly and the intonation spot on. Although I have had guitars for many years and have done some adjustments myself, it still feels better when someone who does it day in day out sets it up. Normally costs me about £50 once a year and that includes a new set of strings, fret dress, lemon oiled neck, cleaning all the saddles and nut. Well worth the dosh, but you have to know that the tech doing it really knows their stuff. Just like most things there are rogue traders here too. So if you follow this route go to a reputable retailer. Most of the larger stores have a full time tech these days. Of course if you feel confident that you can follow the instructions and have all the right tools have a go yourself. If you mess it up you can always take it to the pro later to have it put right. :D

Ooops sorry Farl. Not sure what to ask, as you are probably already aware, I know everything ....... but here goes ....
Can anyone give the ideal positioning of effects within the chain. That would include a standard set of pedals, say a chorus, delay, Distorion / overdrive and maybe a wah pedal. I have seen many differing ideas on this subject and would like to understand a bit more fully why things go where they do and an explanation of what changes to the chain make.
Is that tough enough Farl ?

wah pedal first, it need clean frequencies to operate to full potential
Distortion / overdrive before the amp/pre amp input - to push the amp/pre amp signal to the max
chorus, delay in the effects loop... to colour the amps warm tone
just my opinion.. shuffling this can cause muddy tones.
my turn,

Well that's a toughie ...... but I go with Hobbes. because Huimans fear death and in societies we have better chances to survive.
Secondly societries are created because of so called morals which basically are just the self interest of particular humans, and because many humans have similiar interests they gather in society to make sure their selfishness is protected. And they can force it on weaker groups
Whoopee, looks like my go again :D
Why do we have the musical scales that we currntly use, ie. the interval between notes, is this common around the world or are there differing intervals in different cultures ?

Now then, my question is:
Why does one of my home PC's nearly always stop on "start up" at a point where it says on screen "detecting IDE drive...." I have to switch off and start up again anything up to about 20 times and then it will go OK. I have bought a new PC but want to repair the old (not 2 years yet!) one. Any ideas??

seams to me you may have an intermitent problem, may be due to a loose cable or power conecter to your hard drive, or even a loose settings jumper,
why is cristmas day celibrated on the 25th of december? (not as easy as you may think)
Highway Star
23-11-2005, 12:39 PM
If you really want a serious answer..... the idea of celebrating the christmas day on December 25 was first suggested early in the fourth century as a clever move on the part of Church Fathers to eclipse the December 25 festivities of a rival pagan religion, Mithraism (Mithraism is the ancient Roman mystery cult of the god Mithras), which threatened the existence of Christianity!
As a point of interest, the word for Christmas in late Old English is Cristes Maesse, the Mass of Christ, first found in 1038.

Question:
What happens if you do not "activate" a copy of windows XP Pro?
Farl, the answer to you question is - Activation is required in 30 days from the first day that you start Windows XP. If you want to activate Windows on a day that is later than the day that you install it, a Windows Activation icon appears in the notification area. This icon periodically displays notifications to remind you about how much time remains before you must activate. After the 30 days has expired, you must activate Windows to continue using Windows.
The other question you asked earlier regarding the IDE problem, could be down to an expired CMOS battery on the motherboard. This maintains the configuration of the BIOS, and in turn that maintains a list of detected hardware, ie. the hard drive. You can check this by changinmg some settings in the BIOS, powering off the PC for a while, Then reboot and go into the BIOS to see if the settng you had changed is still the same or has reverted to the factory defaults. If it has reverted back this would indicate that the battery backup is knacked ( Technical Term). Batteries can be obtained from most PC retailers.
My next question is - Has Tony posted my 6 String Heaven T-Shirt Yet ?

Is Khaos a real preson or just some automated part of the 6stringheaven site ?
Reason for question :-
I ask this because he never appears to sleep and it also doesn't matter what time of day I post to the forum, he is always the first one to read it or reply ............ it's getting kinda spooky, I think Khaos is really Big Brother from Orwells 1984 !!!! You arn't the first person of thinking this  he's on MSN 24/7. When it's 8pm here in England it must be 4am in Singapore, and he's still on!

but he spreads it out over the week so we don't notice!

next question, why does it have to be so bloody cold here! I mean we have done our best with global warming and stuff it should be paying dividends in the north of england by now.

I'd rather live in a cold country insted of one like Mexico where it's so hot they sleep through the day and go out at night.

She moans about you getting another guitar because you are damn fool enough to discuss it with her. My advice stop being a wimp, TELL her you are getting another guitar and it is not up for discussion. In my experience it is always best to be straight with women, they do appreciate you being firm with them.

anyone got PAF Pro humbuckers what are they like?
The Paf Pro is substantially hotter and louder than your typical PAF. For example the guy with the Les Paul Custom says that this is designed to have a lower output because it has a lower DC resistance. DC resistance has nothing to do with how much output a pickup has. It provides a general idea of what a pickup will sound like. The lower the DC resist. the brighter the sound and the higher the DC resist. the warmer and fatter the sound. A dimarzio HS-3 is the lowest ouput single coil pickup dimarzio makes yet has a DC rating higher than a Super Distortion. This isn't a hot or low output pickup. It's quite simply medium output which is great for high gain amps. If you already have a high gain amp then you don't need an extremely high output pickup and this thing seems to fair pretty well in this case. This pickup really captures the Early Vai sound ala whitesnake and some of his early recordings. A good example is the live version of "Crying in the Rain". That's the Paf Pro all the way. If you've heard the song notice all the nuances throughout the intro. Early satriani is also the Paf Pro. Just keep in mind that this is hotter than your typical gibson paf especially in the neck position.
The tonal variation derived from this PU is immense. For example, a typical Hendrix bluesy kinda feel, I just choose this PU which is on the neck position of my JS.(Tone knob at 70%, High Pass and Coil Split activated with High Pass fully dialled down)..oooh yeah...Little Wing
Q: Wonder how a RG-2820 will sound with an Air Norton/Tone Zone config. Feedbacks anyone?

03-12-2005, 09:13 PM
The distance will vary according to the amount of magnetic pull of the pickup.
This is the Guide for Fender Strats and Teles.
Bass Side Treble Side
Texas Specials 8/64" (3.6 mm) 6/64" (2.4 mm)
Vintage style 6/64" (2.4 mm) 5/64" (2 mm)
Noiselessâ„¢ Series 8/64" (3.6 mm) 6/64" (2.4 mm)
Standard Single-Coil 5/64" (2 mm) 4/64" (1.6 mm)
Humbuckers 4/64" (1.6 mm) 4/64" (1.6 mm)
Lace Sensors As close as desired (allowing for string vibration)

I have a question, well a few related ones actually.
How many records / cd's do you have to sell these days to get a GOLD disc and how does that compare with the numbers in the 60's, 70's or 80's. Has it changed and if so who decides the figures ?
Highway Star
15-12-2005, 05:23 PM
The RIAA Gold and Platinum Awards program was launched in 1958 in an effort to create a standard by which to measure sales of a sound recording. In the beginning, there was only a Gold album award for the sale of 500,000 copies. As the industry grew, other awards were developed. The Platinum award (1,000,000 sold) was created in 1976 and with the advent of the compact disc and the subsequent increase in sales, the Multi Platinum award was created in 1984. On March 16, 1999, the RIAA launched the Diamond Awards, honoring sales of 10 million copies or more of an album or single. BPI (The British Phonographic Industry) certified awards were originally introduced in April 1973 to measure the performance of individual records based on sales to the trade each week. Qualification for albums was initially on the basis of revenue received by manufacturers, and in January 1978 the BPI abolished the old monetary system for albums and replaced it with a unit system. This brought album awards into line with singles and also with other countries where qualification levels are based on unit sales. Multi platinum awards, introduced in February 1987, are any multiple of the platinum level, e.g. album quadruple platinum status = 1.2m.
