Though I'd share with you my motley collection of six string schrapnel.

First up my Hofner Congress Archtop 1961.
Then my Les Paul Special.

And the rest of the toys. From the front. Yamaha Tele fitted with a SD somethingorother humbucker, Gibson LP Junior single cut, Gordon Smith GS1, Hagstrom Swede, and a Hofner Verithin 1963.

Amps.
First up is my main rig, which is a Yamaha DG1000 preamp (finest piece of kit I have ever owned), coupled to a Yamaha SPX90 then an SPX900 and finally into an Alesis RA100 amp. This drives a stereo Ashdown 4x12.

And just a cheap thing of eBay (£160 all together), a Marshall 9001 valve preamp then an ITG 100watt per channel amp into a line6 1x12 cab.

Everything else is too shameful or too cheap to show............

And there's a Laney Hardcore HC25R amp around somewhere that I bought of Rick.

Nice collection you got going there Gazza. Great to see some of the more historic guitars in there too. Some of those old Hofners were pretty well made. I had one myself sometime back, I thought it played crap then, but with what I know now about setup and stuff i could have made it sing again. Wish I still had it now.

Nice looking rig too mate.

These Ashton cabs look great,
better than any other cabs I've seen, most are boring,
these have some style at least.

how does it sound?

Zappafan,
I'd rather have an old guitar with a bit of a vibe going than a strat shaped thing with all the feel sucked out of it. When I started playing ( 18+ years now) Charvels were the in thing, but I never liked that whole lollipop neck thing. I was much more taken with something that I could wrap my hand round, hence the Gordon Smith and the Gibsons. I also like the feel of the Hofners, get a good one and it feels very similar to a classic Gibson profile, even the Congress acoustic is easy to play with a nice low action. As for the Hagstrom, what a forgotten guitar these are, if you find one cheap, buy it, or let me know where it is.

Ini,
The Ashdown cab is pretty bright for a 4x12 but still nice and balanced. I've had a few 4x12 cabs and this is the only one I'm happy with. I find most dull unless pushed really hard and it doesn't rattle at volume. Every Marshall cab I've come across has rattled due to the bracing leg for the back cover, they used to drive me nuts when I worked as a guitar tech/sound engineer. If you do have a Marshall, either stick a screw through the back panel into the brace, cover the end of it in a bit of foam, or kick the fecker off (NOT while the owner of the cab is looking though, as I found to my cost on one tour).

Well I don't have a cab at all,
that's also why I ask, those Ashdowns are in my list of consideration when I will buy one later in time.

Thanks for the information. :)

That's enough kit to have some fun with!! I like Hohners as well, sold my acoustic though and just missed out on a Gold Top Professional (LP by any other name!)

Nice collection but, a bit more blue would be good.... LOL (my atempt at humour!)

That's a nice varied collection you've got there and not a shredmachine in sight.

This comment made me chuckle quietly to myself...

You see, many years ago I had a fiddle around with a friends Gordon Smith and it had just about the thinnest neck I've ever held in my sweaty little left hand and I liked it for that reason. I think sometimes a manufacturer can mistakenly get a reputation for thick or thin necks when really it all depends on the model being played. I have two Jacksons and the necks couldn't be more different from each other if they were made by different companies, the JSX is thin and the Soloist is quite chunky but I guess even I would say that the JSX feels more Ibanez-like and the Soloist feels more Gibson-like so I'm guilty of it too.

I bought them both of Fleabay. I'd bid on the sunburst flame G60 and lost it and then bid on the red Graduate (both Gordon Smiths, I love 'em) and won it. I was then offered the G60 on a second chance deal. As I made a cup of tea my youngest, Adam who is three years old, bought the bloody thing for me! "Oh, well." thought I, and collected it later that day. Altogether another £700 down the pan, have to do some more overtime.

So let me get this right, you told the wife that you only bought one, and that your 3 year old bought the other. Make a note of that one guys, that could come in useful for explaing that next guitar purchase. :thumb:

I doomed no matter what I try and pull...and thats more easy on the eyes to see them now

It helped that the wife was in the kitchen with me at the time, that just previous she had seen the second chance offer first, and had brought it up on the screen to show me then joined me in the kitchen as the young'un took over the computer.

Not as bad as when the eldest bought a set of £400 Vauxhall alloys for my Volvo when he was two. I cried off that one, damn Buy It Nows.
