Its a toughy to decide between two guitarists and before I do I just wanna say I havn't yet learned this but I can see it aint easy so kudos to you both..

Rick's seemed to be more in time and easier to listen to and was more controlled while rlee had some real tough parts nailed and sounding bang on.. errrm heads or tails..

Ok boys after I watched these both 3 times each and giving them a good go over considering I know this tune inside and out both were outstanding. But after 3 beers and carefull consideration I'm gonna go with my vote to Rick.....it was a hard decision and I would maybe rather not even half to vote on this one but my wife watched and gave the final decision. It ain't often that happens but I needed an unbiased opinion....Still a fabulous job Rob....this was close

wow! man, this is tough. It seems to me that I was trying to compare parts of the song...who hit the intro better (rick), who hit the verses and bridge a little better (rob), who worked the solo a bit better (rob), who hit the slow part after the solo better (rick). You guys both excelled in completely different areas of the song. Seems like rick nailed the slow, timing aspects like the intro and the breakdown of the song. So to me, that shows that Rick had a little more of the feel of the song, because those timing changes are important. Rob seemed to have the faster, more energetic bits of the song down better. Seemed like you were speeding through the breakdown after the solo which to me is one of the most important parts of the song. The intro too, seemed rushed. So for Rick, I'd say work on the faster bits, gaining the fluidity that EVH does so well. And for Rob, work on the feel of the jam. Work on emoting the slower bits because I personally think they MAKE the song.

That said, I cant play ANY of this song, haha, and you guys did a HELLUVA job and I feel like a douchebag for critiquing the two versions cause you're all lightyears ahead of me...but I guess that's the point of this battle.

My vote goes to....ummm....man, this is tough!!! Alright, I think Rick won it by a hair. Not much seperated you two though! Great playing!

Jeez this is a tough one! I've got to agree with the comments so far.... Both bloody good but, sorry Rob I've gone for Rick but only because I felt the main riff flowed a tad better (tad, not a hair Rob!) Believe me though Rob, I still thought yours was great as well but..... better get your beer money out! LOL

A rep point each I think!

Well guys this completely blew me away how good these both were but i had to vote Rick's version. Rob there were a few bitsa that you hesitated it seemed and the flow wasn't there.

Rick what can I say i am delighted by how good this was...everyone has seen the awesome playing of Rob recently and he has blown us away on loads of occasions but have you been in a dungeon lock away with just this on mp3 and your POD tone for several months....splendid and rep point coming your way.

Both did a sterling job!

In the end I had to vote for Tricky Ricky.

You both did good job , but I have to choose one of you.

I'll go with Rick because his rythem was better.

I think Rlee solo's was better but was having a bit of trouble with the rythem.

good job both of you.

hmmm not just yet! Rob

i'm also trying to get the jump solo going as well, that and the beat it solo (which i just can't get near) are 2 of my long term goals not bad with jump, i have it down only slowly though.
but beat it hmmm can't get the super wide legato its well hard

I've got to go along with the crowd and give it to Rick, but you both did a stellar job...I may have to take a crack at this one too, haven't played it since I was in a cover band in 85!

I like this analysis....

I gave rick a 8.5 and rob an 8 on this performance!

Great job. Keep on practising.

I was very keen on judging. Specially because I've studied this song (but failed!!) a few months back. I know all the hard stuff what should have been played. And I've heard a lot of hard stuff played, that's why the high numbers!

I still think, having watched both versions many many times there isn't much between these two versions. So if I can I would like to abstain. I really dont think it would be right to single anyone out as a winner or loser, I think you are both winners. Well done guys.
