Hi folks,
Just made this video. It represents pretty well what I'm about as a guitarist.
It's probably not very accessible to anyone other than myself but perhaps a couple of you will like it?
What the hey, it's 100% improvised..

Things to watch out for:
-Bouncing leg of doom
-Electronic backing track coming in half way through
-Going dangerously close to being out of key in a few spots
-Messed up chord progressions!
-Dissonance!
Let me know what you like/hate. Don't be shy, I'm interested. :)

Hi Spuddle,
If you like to play with some back track you can use a software called:Fruity loop. There is many synth sounds and drums and also many drum loop.
Very cool software to work with. If you want to know how it can sound check out my song I'v just posted called:Zane first song. You will have a idea.

Ok you asked for it LOL :-) na just teas'n ya.. You have some really good ideas and managed to make some tough chords sound really sweet even with distortion. On the other hand you look like your easily distracted and lose concentration. Nice improv all the same spuddle and I hope theres more to come.. :thumb:

Hi Zane!
I use many other sequencers over FruityLoops, I prefer to have as much control over the sounds and arrangement as possible. I shall check out your song though!
At the moment I'm using EnergyXT, great modular routing options!
I used to use Reason a lot but started getting frustrated with the simplistic sequencer in there, endlessly useful sounds though!
Currently on the look out for a good app to use for film scoring, needs to be handle video files effortlessly. Anyone got any suggestions?

I totally agree with you Pete! When I improvise I jump around ideas really rapidly, I guess that makes for a very random experience. I wouldn't say I get distracted from the guitar/sounds/instrument but more rather I play one thing and then try another. I do try to make things have a logical progression but that can fail at times.
I compare it to like going out for a walk:
-I set off, leaving the house and shut the door. *Play one lick*.
-I walk down the path and spot a dog. *Play a short riff*.
-I pat the dog on the head. *Create a variation of previous riff*.
-The dog changes into a banana. *Jump to another place on the fretboard to run up and down a scale*.
-I set off again and observe a tree burst into flames. *I attempt to shred (hah)*.
And so on and so forth. The thing that usually constitutes 'Western song structure' is idea of repetition and returning back to your original ideas or motiffs. I would say that I don't do this so much when improvising.
That said I do conform more when actually trying to compose and write songs so argueably I have material that should be more appeasing to a wider audience. :)
Thanks for watching though!

No problem Spud mate I'm an improvisor myself, I usually try to start with the old intro part into a common themed melody line then attempt some kind of bridge to a lame ass cabbage shredding ****age then try and return to the melody line a bit before trying to re-introduce some more ****age LOL :-) Actually I preffer technique over shredding and I will usually try and hear a melody in my mind before playing over a BT or drum line.
Structured progressions are a guide not an absolute means to an end, but much can be done using common structures all the same..
The best thing about guitar is everyone can approach it in different ways, variety is the spice of life!
Was cool to see and hear you play Spuddle, I hope to see you around more mate. :thumb:

I liked that spuddle, it is unusual for sure but didn't make me cringe at any time, what I mean is it was very together..a difficult thing to do over a long track. It had a sort of tubular bells vib to it once the backing loop kicked in. all in I was impressed ( for what thats worth lol).

Hehe thanks doug!
No cringing you say? Gosh that can only be a good thing ;)
Not to worry, I do sometimes play and record slightly more 'mainstream' guitar compositions as well so I'll do that and share it with interested parties soon.

I thought it had nice vibe to it and yes the chords were a nice blend its got that Eric Johnson vibe to it too which is cool..(maybe just my opinion)....it also left me with the feeling I wanted more..so don't hesitate to elaborate further on that one. Very nice dude this is the kind of thing I should be getting done more so I always respect and enjoy a total original by someone. Rep. point for you dude:thumb:

Ooh, thanks guys, you're all very kind!
Good call on Eric Johnson zeusse, he is one of my bigger influence. Love his chord voices and phrasing for example.
Jeff Beck is another of mine, I love his seemingly unnatural approach to getting noise out of the guitar. Plus his fusion of guitar and electronica is astounding in his later releases.
I'll record a 'song' next time for you guys. Thanks for watching.
