Did this real quick. I have some really authentic VH tones that I've backed up over the years, but unfortunately, I didn't have time to install them into my rig due to current projects I'm working on. I even have a VH like guitar that I used to use that I didn't pull out...yet should have.
But anyway, I used my purple Carvin on this with a quickie EVH tone I just created for the heck of it. Mistakes and all included, but a pretty fun attempt you'll probably enjoy. At least the flanger seems to sound right. LOL!!! Enjoy!

For a quick one it's pretty damn good! Nicely played and nice paning effect.
Sound pretty authentic to me.

Thanks Zap and Zane. Well, you know how it goes guys...when you're like really into this stuff and living it...like I was years ago, you get all the touch stuff going on and really try to cop the tone. I've not really attempted any of this stuff since I left my VH tribute act in 1997. All the tones I used for that era still exist, but I couldn't load them up. A bit more authentic while using them and the guitar I used to use for that stuff, but for a one take quickie, this was really fun for me. :) Glad you guys liked it, thanks a lot.

LOL Shep, you're too good to me man, thanks! :) The flanger used in that is from my Digitech 2101. It took me quite a long time to get that sound...loads of tweak hours as the 2101 is not too user friendly and it gives you so many options that have options that have options for those options, you sometimes lose your desire to program it. LOL!! Everything you heard in both the rhythm and lead tones were the 2101 tones exclusively. The phasor on the lead sound took a bit to tweak as well. But once you dial everything in and get over the war of fighting with yourself about how many options to look over, you can really get some monsterous sounds out of the 2101. :) Glad ya liked it, thanks man.
Awesome stuff Danny. Jeez it was worth all those hours teaking your digitech cos your sound is brilliant. I would lov to make your mistakes...like Zap my ears can't hear them...I hope my ears never improve but my playing does LOL.

13-06-2006, 02:30 PM
Oh yeah Zombo, the 2101 is pretty limitless for rock, that's for sure. With a little time spent with it, there's just about no sound that can't be achieved. :)
Danny how do you control the Digitech in a Live situation does it have a foot control? or do you rely on someone to ring in the changes?
Danny Danzi
13-06-2006, 02:45 PM
I have 2 methods that I currently use religiously, Stew, The first and most reliable is if my guitar tech changes patches for me. This keeps me from tap dancing on the foot controller. For my little rig named "David" (12 space rack) it's a very simple board. A Digitech Control One board that integrates right into the 2101.
The next method I've been trying out for the past 2 years, is a bit more risky but VERY cool. I bring a laptop pc with me and allow Sonar Producer 5 to run and change my patches automatically for me. This method requires a bit more set up and a click track for my drummer to have to play to. The click track is included with every song. As the click track plays inside Sonar (big brother to Cakewalk) the midi patch changes change to the numbers automatically. If I tell it that I want a clean sound at 2:04 in the first song, it will do it instantaneously. It's a very cool method that has not let me down yet. In the event it does, we have 2 additional pedal boards...one off the stage so my tech can trigger it if need be, one always on the stage so I can use it if needed.
When I use my huge rig, "Goliath" (25 space rack with onboard computer and custom Bradshaw switching system) there are way too many midi changes to take a chance, so I operate this one with a huge pedal board from on the stage, or my tech does it with his slave pedal board from the sidelines. All of my guitars are ready to go before a show, so you'll never see him messing with guitars while I play live. The occassional broken string maybe, but other than that, we only tune when things are extememly hot on stage...like venues in the UK where there is no air conditioning and the stage is a sweltering 130 degrees f. In these conditions, guitars usually need to be tuned every other song due to the intense heat.
Under normal circumstances and from 100-110 degrees f, I tune my guitars one time before I play and they never go out. So my tech has nothing to do but run my board. lol :)
just to bring this back on track..
anybody else up for this challenge??
i guess jon and danny are already..
i'll see if i can make a semi decent recording of it..
so like the little wing challenge i'll call sunday the last day for entry and if its not entered then it won't be!

I didn't mean for my version to really be included in the "challenge". I only posted here because no one had done anything yet and felt you guys might have enjoyed what I did. So please gents, enjoy the competition and post your version without thinking of mine. I need to read these forums a little bit closer from here on out. Sorry..

I didn't notice this challenge until today. Too bad I missed it. Or is it still going? I would need to learn the song and work on the tone for the podxtl. I've messed around trying to get the slapback delay but I can't seem to figure it out. It would probably take too long for me to get into the challenge but I think I'll work on it anyway since it is one of my favorite VH tunes. Nice job on all the recordings so far!
you have until 1 week on thusday. because im going away till then and i'll make the challenge up when i get back!
i think zeusse is going to do it to.

Another one filed under 'gotta get round to one day'. Had some spare time so fiddled with the sound and off we went! Took a coupla hours...main problem was the backer is a bit 'wooly' so tried to spice up with EQ but as vocals, bass and drums already pre-mixed, difficult to bring things out. Had another BT without vox but that was 440 pitch and this stuff sounds right at 430.
Added the flanger after recording as really difficult to dial it in and out. Peavey Wolfgang and PODxt.
:thumb:
BTW Danny, thanks for the delay settings. I've found you have to have a perversely CLEAN sound at the beginning to get the delay to cut thru and I don't think I'm quite there with it yet!

Your video was not bad. You have pretty good rhythm and stay tight with what is going on. Your left hand looks terrible though. Once you relearn how to hold your left hand, you will play better and much smoother.
