View Full Version : The little wing challenge
ok folks here it is!
your chance to vote!
its close but my vote is cast.
I went for the one that i liked best, great tone and just enough playing!
all versions were outstanding though and if i had got involved i would have been bottom of the heap by far!
nice job all of yas.wish i could pull it off.
Very nice job to all who had the balls to try this track... I hope in years (and I mean years not months) that I can play a half decent version of this but I am way off just now.
Had to go with Farl's. RE: It is the one that evoked memories of Hendrix playing it...polished performance with wonderful tone but hell it was a tough call because every single one had loads of feel and passion...ain't it great being a 6 stringer...rock on everyone. :thumb:

Farl got my Vote too. Simple approach, good playing, good tone, and like stew said before it reminded me most of the original. Top stuff Farley me old mate.
Big kudos to everyone though, they were all great efforts and I hope we get plenty of votes in on this one, because you guys deserve it for putting these together.

Well, I'm going for the most original and the guy with the balls to sing it and play the longest version. Big on originality...... Junkala!

I have to go with Wahwah . His tone was great and the playing too.
If I had a second choice I would go with Junkala because I like how he ends the song...totaly original and groovy.
All of you did a good job. That's a hard song to play and feel so I give you all

It was actually pretty tough deciding this, I voted WahWha because it was pretty damned awesome and played with a lot of feeling. Farley came a close 2nd for me, and Farl mate you sounded great man, I mean I had to double check the filename cause I dunno if I've ever heard you play quite so well (thats a compliment if you were wondering lol)..

Choosing which one to vote for was really, really hard, but I had to go with wahwah, with junkala as a really close second..both had really good tone and feel
Great job all of you! :thumb:

This is a REALLY high quality battle and everybody brought something to the table. I don't really know you guys playing style to make a judgement on whether you played out of your skins or not...I just know I like 'em! :thumb:

Ha! My playing style is "rarely" Mr Wah!! LOL But... Visco, Rep point to you mate! Great from one so young! Wah, as polished as I expected, really great performance, Rob mate, you are a true 6SH star! you always turn in a good performance (and I know that this is one of your fave's!), and Junkala, I've listened to your vesion a few times and as really surreal as it sounds (really, no offence meant!) I loved your bizarre singing and great playing!
Time will tell! (time again!!! LOL)
Farl
Everyone has done a great job on this and it's a tough call, there are different reasons for choosing different players. Each have their own attributes but I had to go for the shredders choice.... well done Junkala.
Its great fun Farl the only way anyone else gets to here me play good or bad, Ive learnt so much more since finding this site onto my next cover and looking forward to Zombos June Jam.

Iknow what you mean Rob only you guys have heard me play recently...my wife gave up few years ago and didn't even want to hear my cover of 10 words as she said my playing does nothing for her...oh well June Zombo should be good.
Very hard desicion! I couldn't decide between Visco or Farl.
I've gave my vote to Farl because it was the most soulful-est.
It didnt sound like you were pounding the strings or trying to be the fastest.
Very cool playing Farley!
If this was a tone contest i think visco or junkala would win.
But once again, a toast to farley and his little wing cover.

Quick!! Close the voting!! LOL
Seriously (for a change) many thanks to all of you who have taken the trouble to listen and to vote. It really does make it worthwhile when you see that people are actually spending time (5 tracks, at least 15 mins of music plus downloading time) making considered judgements etc. etc. For those who have graced me with your vote then all I can really say is "ta very much!" I am most surprised. Still a way to go yet though I'll be bound!
Farl
Man, this is just too hard to decide.
Just listened to all of them and everyone made such an outstanding job, great tone and work from all of you guys.
After listening to all of them and comparing them to each other,
I thought that all of them are so good, I'll have to go with the one that I liked best, just as rick.
My vote goes to wahwah, I really like his smooth tone, though the other ones are great too, was a really hard decision.
I also agree with Pete, farley did a great job on this, that's what made my decision so hard, but sorry farl, at the end I just had to go with wahwah,
his tone was just too good lol.
Great work guys!

It's all still undecided mate!
Need more votes.
What is the cut off? Best of 50 votes or first passed a certain number of votes or a time cut off?
Stew
I doubt many more will vote, same as the Panama Poll 300 views and 12 votes, and again only 2 for me damn it.

dont worry rob your one rocked no doubt about that :thumb:
It was hard to decide, but I gave Junkala the favour of my doubts...
All the others were very close 2nd...
This is just a song I can't learn in a zillion years...
And since I can't remember the original song (and I got a JH CD in my collection which I've only heard once about 9 to 10 years ago), I make a promise that I will listen to that CD completely tommorow in my car with my speakers far open....
So maybe I'm not objective enough because I don't have the knowledge of the original song. But on the other hand, I just voted for the interpretation I liked most (at this time)...
In an other mood, maybe someone else got the favour of my doubt!
Anyhow: Thumbs up for all of you!

Wow, this was a tough one...in the end, I had to go with Farley by a nose. Excellent job by everybody though!
its set to end on a date, which from memory was either 2 weeks or maybe 1 month from the start date of the thread! can't remember which. (senior moment) :-(

Well, you never know.... but, if it is then hell, I am really chuffed (as well as really surprised!!) any vote from your peers is really great for the soul but, jeez, it has been nip and tuck so far! Great fun to do, great guys doing it and a great tough competition with a variety of takes and styles which, although I voted for Junkala because I loved his off beat take on it, I was sure you would win Mr Wah! Still you never know what may happen as yet!

Man my computer sucks I wanted in on this before my pc crashed last week:wall: So since I can't get in on this now at least I got a chance to listen to all the entries and have a beer and give them my undivided attention since I am now on vacation....yeah....
1. Viscolex I gotta say dude you can be proud of that effort dude I think it was my most sober state of mind when I listened to yours first but I came back and listened again after a lot of beers in case I missed anything........well done dude!
2. Rob I listened to yours and really liked your tone but the wife bugged me in the middle of it so I listened to it three times just to be fair.....this is when I realized this is going to be hard......but it was good and made me want another beer.
3. Beer break
4. Junkala damm dude I didn't think I should laugh but I couldn't stop hope you were kidding around because if not you should be a comedian or receive an award for that performance.......you are one brilliant s.o.b.
5. Farley thats impressive tone was the best of all of them and almost had a flash back to the 70's..........ok I do that everyday but you had me listening to it all the way to the beer store
6. Beer break sorry their real cold!
7. Chris a true talent you are sir and was thinking you might get real flashy on this one but instead you gave some real taste....now I'm lost and can't decide
8. Beer break....thats the only decision process I can make
After steak and beer and a roller blade ride around the park (those are hockey skates with wheels, aren't Canadians clever) I gave the decision to Farley really nice job and deserves a rep. point for that.........I'm now trying to figure out if my wife will let me buy a laptop for my vacation because I don't want to miss all the great stuff.......ok I might forget when I'm passed out on the beach
Well done Farl you are a very natural player, I wish I had your sense of timing.

Why isnt hendrix on the poll
An overated guitarist but still does the better version of little wing
Overated, I really hate it when people say that, yes I have recordings of him playing absolute shite (obviously under the influence) but never overated no no no!!!

Er.... have I missed something here?? The purpose of the "Little Wing challenge" was for 6 String Heaven members to post their versions of Little Wing. We were "challenged" by Visco to put up our versions against his version and let other members vote on it. Why would we put the original up to be voted on??
I would agree, yes, quite right, Hendrix does a better version of Little Wing, er... he should have done shouldn't he??
I must have missed something..... ??

Huh !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What utter nonsense Hendrix overated !!!!
If it wasn't for him you'd be playing an acoustic young man, Hendrix was an innovator to say he was overated is really a very naive statement!
People like Joe Satriani quote his influence on his technique his playing was incredible just take little wing!!
I would like to hear you do a version of that I do feel that you have made a rash statement you should become a danseur!!
Or try to use a bit more encephalolith before you post !
Ok Zombo my online dictionary found "Danseur" but what the hells bells does encaphalolith mean? I wound hazard a guess that he should use his Noggin a bit more often
Why isnt hendrix on the poll
