Ok been looking forward to this for months since first saw it advertised. Finally the day arrived to see the man himself.

Fistly supporting was a guy called Johnny A whom i had never heard of but was completely flabergasted by his playing.... afine blend of Jazz and Blues and Rock. His bass player was equally good and all in all the trio went down very well. Please check out out his very fine website phoots and tour diary very good.

http://www.johnnya.com/

Well short break then the lights went down the stage went Blue and that familiar drone and feedback licked off the very familiar Flying in a Blue Dream....man I wish I had binoculars as I wanted to see how he played bits of it..oh well back to the San Fran DVD.

Well the set list was roughly like this
Flying in a Blue Dream >dreamy and atmosheric wonderment
The Extremist >my mate Dean falls of chair when he plays harmonica at same time
Redshift Riders > great new song
Satch Boogie >crowd wakener yee ha
Just Like Lightnin' > great one for Henson the rhthym guitarist fab groove
It's So Good >exactly like it says on the tin
One Robot's Dream >wow weird and keyboard playing by Satch whilst doing trills
Super Colossal >Colossal harmonised sound
ICE9 >not a fav but impressive enough
A Love Eternal > Love Thing makde way for this says it all
Circles >my eyes were doing circles by now
A Cool New Way >yes it is!!!
The Mystical Potato Head Groove Thing >poor Dean falls off seat again I had warned him about the arpeggios
Always With Me, Always With You > 9min 23seconds extended version pure class
Surfing With the Alien > the little guy must be an alien
Crowd Chant >crowd were well up for this one wow oh oh woah oh
Summer Song >awesome last track have a nice summer everyone!!!

Well there were so many highlights he used the white JS the Red JS his new supercolossal faced JS and of course the magnifecent chromeboy.

The JSX into 3 Peavey cabinets sounded awesome.

The crowd were well up for doing the crowd to crowd chant...can't wait for another Live DVD of one of his shows with the new stuff on it. He didn't play 10 words I think he heard Stew did a cover and he would never live up to it LOL.

Almost every song had extra licks added to them unkie previous footage i have seen where he plays almost exactly the album version but he has totally changed tact for the Super Colossal tour to give fans a little bit more.

Well i must say awesome concert and so glad I have now seen him and would urge all to see him at least once...I can't wait to see another Live performance.

The concert was ace wasnt it Stew! At newcastle, when he was playing flying in a blue dream and galen came in with the chords, everyone was cheering and shoutin, it was amazing!

Although i think he changed his set list slightly for us, insted of playing a cool new way, he added Luminous Flesh giants and the enigmatic as well.

A great show!

(Also i would like to add, that I had the pleasure of meeting Satriani himself! What a cool guy, got some autographs, my album signed and my poster signed! Sadly no photo as newcastle city hall strictly given the notice of a non-photography event, which is a mug!)

Actually come to think of it he played much different songs at newcastle, this is our set list:

1. Flying In a blue dream.
2. extremist.
3. satch boogie.
4. super colossal.
5. Red shift riders.
6. cool #9.
7. dave la rue solo.
8. just like lightning.
9. ice 9.
10. meaning of love.
11. the enigmatic.
12. circles
13. mystical potato head groove thing.
14. one robots dream. (with his tiny keyboard )
15. luminous flesh giants.
16. surfing with the alien.
17. always...
(Encore)
18. Crowd Chant
19. Summer song.

Yep thats a 3 hour set including Johnny A for half an hour. Truely awsome.

I've been priveledged enough to live in towns that have let me see 8 different tours by Joe, and 2 different G3's (John Petrucci and Yngwei).

As far as I'm concerned, Joe is one of the coolest cats to ever strap on a guitar, and he puts on a great show. I don't think I've EVER heard him miss a note at any of them.

A few years ago, when Joe came to town, it would be just Joe, with no supporting act. He'd do damn near 3 hours of music. They would have a short intermission, and when the curtain would raise again, it would be the coolest acoustic setup ever. Joe with and acoustic, Stu with and acoustic bass, and Jeff with the smallest drumset ever. They would play about a half hour of laid back jamming, and it was mostly that. Just kinda an short improve session, then it was back to slayin' with the chromeboy, and the whammy pedal.

Great stuff, and I'm glad you got to see him!

Johnny A must have just replaced Eric Johnson. I just saw Joe a month ago, and it was Joe and Eric. Good stuff either way.

Thanks for the review!

Johnny A was incredible, he's defintaly a very underrated player, saw him flicking between 5-7 chords each second, it was amazing.

Yeah Shep I was thrilled by his ability to hit a chord and while it seemed to still ring play a lead lick over it. His blend of playing fascinated me. That is the great thing with these gigs is you get turned on to something new.

Glad you had a great time at the gig.

I would have got tickets for the Manchester gig but the Apollo is such a disgrace I couldn't bring myself to endure it again... not even for Satch, but then I've seen him there before. Maybe next time I'll travel further afield if anyone can recommend a good venue... would have to be Newcastle, Birmingham or Glasgow, anything else is just too far.

Just got back from the Bournemouth Gig. Satch was on top form and the crowd were certainly up for it too.

Set list was very similar I guess, although I am ashamed to admit I havent heard all his work. Absolutely Top notch.
:jaw:
There was one point when he was playing the candy red JS when the spotlight caught the guitar, and the light reflecting off the trem, frets and tuning pegs was like frickin lasers.....awesome

I am really beginning to wish I had got tickets for one of these gigs, oh well too late now. Sounds like all you guys ahd a good time though which is good to hear. So often people seem to come back from gigs a little disappointed, but not here, thank heaven. It just goes to show what a pro Satch is.
