well I have a couple on standby if needed, but I want to do my crap vocals again which limits me a bit, I don't really have Gilmours range though I can get away with Roger Waters :) I thought of doing either dogs or sheep to be different but they're waaaaay too long :D so I may go with something a bit more conventional.

Myuzishin
26-08-2006, 03:02 PM
Plenty of instrumentals to choose from, or just the solo sections :)

scalemaster
26-08-2006, 04:54 PM
yeah, solo sections are cool too. thats probably what i'll do

26-08-2006, 11:59 PM
Oh, I have to get in on this one! I have a bunch of floyd so I have no idea wich one to pick. And actually I've already done kind of a metal arrangement on a floyd tune =D

scalemaster

cool, i dont know if i'm going to be able to record anything for this, my hand is giving me some real bad trouble. i might be able to do this though depending on how busy my doctor is.

Well it looks like mines the first  I spent a few hours on it at the weekend and finished it off today, the mix is a bit rough but I've sort of run out of time - too much work to do for the rest of the week ;) I wish I could spend more time mastering it! I'd planned to do something different, but it is officially the greatest guitar solo of all time, so...

Backing track was a rough midi track off the net, cut down to horns, organ, strings and drums pretty much - plenty of plugins used. Used my P-Bass for the bass and my Kauri Strat for all the other guitars. Vocals through a crappy mic with a lot of processing ;) Feel free to fastforward past them - I'm trying to sing more, I need the practice...

I've linked offsite as its a long track and I don't want to compress the quality any more than this! Its 6.23Mb

Now that was very good! You played the solo right on bro. I started the chalange with the same song.I hope it's ok to have the same song. You don't need to worry because you play the solo much better than me. And for the vocals...that was good.I don't see why you need practice.Great job! This is my favorite song of all times. The greatest solo of all songs to me.

Great cover bluesgeek! I think the vocals where great too. And the solo was spot on.

It's great that you did the AAAAHHH pinprick scream too, alot of people leave that one out, makes the tune feel incomplete.

Yep its definitely one of the best solos ever :) Would it be heresy to say that I prefer the live solo from the Roger Waters live CD/DVD? I just love the trade off between Doyle Bramhall and Snowy White :D

Here's mine...a fave track off my fave Floyd album. The guy singing is Serge from New Orleans (also known as 3fingers in a lot of places!). I had great fun trying to replicate the very end of the song where the radio is tuned in. Also I did a bit of 'Wish You Were Here' to make it sound authentic and we're gonna go back and do that track someday. If you listen you'll hear Butthead and Beavis, Darth Vader and all sorts! (Took an AGE to find em and reduce them to radio quality but if a job's worth doing and all that...)

I've had to reduce the quality as it was 7mb originally...I'm sure you guys will end up doing the same if you pick a long 'un! :thumb:

Here's a track that I did with JPF over at guitars101.com a while ago. I think he has an account here as well.
I did everything from scratch on this one, and JPF supplied some powerful asskicking vocals!
It's "Let There Be More Light" from the "Saucerful of Secrets" album, in a sort of metal version.
I was thinking of entering with wish you were here at first, but then I thought I'd go with something a bit more obscure, cause I bet there will be another wish you were here in this competition. Unless everyone thinks like I did ;)

Nice version mate...guitar sounds awesome and nothing wrong with your vocals at all. All us none 'singists' can at least do some justice to Waters as he's kinda acting a part for the main and singing in a wierd talking sorta mad vibe...you sounded perfect for this role!!!! Great stuff...

I don't know this track at all but I know you as the Floyd King Naif...and with JP onboard you can't fail. Real brave to go with a track that isn't in the top 10 of all the usual suspects mate. Sounds great...reminded me of old King Crimson...great stuff guys. :thumb:

Great work so far. I like the "let there be more light" track so far. I am putting the lead down today on my track. I should have my track up tonight (fri) or tommorow. Never been good at recording. Always did much better live. Something about the energy of the live feel. Again great work so far by all.

I am working on "The Wall". I have the solo down now, as far as playing it, now I have to record it and I always seem to mess up recording. The vocals are not great mainly because I can't sing to well unless I sing Johnny Cash songs. I should be done Saturday night.

Well it took me a while. The solo is a little is not great and my vocals need lots of help. I have to admit though the Les Paul Custom is a great (but heavy) guitar. That thing will hold a note for almost ever.

Thanks for the response. I used a 79 Les Paul Custom with a 57 classic on the neck. I got the tone from the tone search in Gearbox for my Podxt. I could not find a good light distortion for the rhythm. One day I may redo the solo. After I finished what I did I could not do it anymore. That solo is full of high bends and my fingers are now recovering from playing it for three days straight. I only learned the solo three days ago. Either way, I had fun and learned more about tracking in Sonar.

Really cool version. I love this track and I've recorded a couple of versions of it myself =)
Like the different rythmic strumming, that was a cool touch to make it your own.
Vocals are killer too, really great sounding.
You almost nailed the solo too, a few notes were played on the wrong string.
It's at 2:35 and I think you play 14-13-14 on the 3rd string instead of the 4th string, right?
Otherwise, totally beautiful job, and I'm glad I didnt enter my version of this one here cause It'd get creamed!
