View Full Version : Zombo's rhythm challenge !

zombo
08-09-2006, 02:28 PM
So here we go I kept it simple in A so you can do a lot with it I can't wait to see what you all come up with?
Remember though keep it mostly rhythm throw a solo in there too but don't forget it shouldn't be the main thing!
It's a nice fresh approach and I tried to give the track that live feeling so feel like your on stage and all that adrenaline is flowing through you!
When you finish just upload it and we will have a poll on it closing date is next Sunday 16th of September at 20.00 GMT!

I came up with something cool but I have a problem. Can you make another version that in the middle the bass plays a C for one measure and then a D for a measure and plays that sequence 6 times. If not I will figure something out.

Okay, here's my first attempt :wall: just some straight ahead power chords A D and C and some twiddly bits thrown in just because I could, got some other ideas to come on this, including me playing keys on it, which should be a laugh

Zappafan! I really liked your first take. Someone said 80's. Most definitly. Great track. Great idea for take 3. Zombo should make that the rhythm challenge theme song. It also made me forget about that I would like the C D change and just deal with the A pedal. At least the A is related. Great tracks so far.

Nice work there BigD. I know what you mean about the rhythm, I had the same problem, giess thats because i dont play enough rhythm guitar as I should, something I intend to put right.

Rockin' stuff there .... did i detect some artistic licence with the bass line ... it seems to have changed ever so slightly :-) ...... not that it matters a jot. Loved the wah-wah tones and that sustained note at the end was the dogs wotsits. Good work mate.:thumb: :thumb:

Well this is the first time I've played guitar for over a week (i've been a bit low...) and... it's the first time I've used Adobe Audition 1.5! and...... the first time I've used the Explorer, and.....my first musical post for about 8 weeks!!!

Anyhow, I've cocked up the "solo" big style and have no time to do it again today so, by next sunday it will be re-done but, other than that I'm happy enough with it!

Well holy cow boys you guys got this thing going pretty damm good I think I got a riff thanks to all you guys posting some pretty inspiring stuff

Zap: I can see you've been holding out on us with all these riffs ooozing from your fingers I don't know which one I like the best now there all so damm good

Big D: alas his guitar is not just something to admire in a picture but a most classy approach to this backer with the refreshing clean tone I like from you and some distortion too I guess I'm starting to rub off on you...lol

Guitarpima: Love your chording and tone gives it a whole different feel to how I've been invisioning this backer kinda early Beck to me

Farl: The Wheat King has finally strummed in nicely with the blues feel..must have been a good harvest with the 900 tons of wheat because you seem more aggressive with the riffs

I'll get something up tomorrow or later tonight cheers guys!

Farl, That was some really great work. Reminds me of the seventies style jams. I really enjoyed yours.

Big D, I missed yours too. I realized I did when everyone else was commenting on yours. Easy for me though, My eyesight is not what it used to be and that was never great. Anyway, I like your solo work. I hear influences from Duane Alman, Rhandy Bachman, and Clapton.

This was a great idea Zombo.
BTW Don't kick me out of Zombo's world for making my own bass line. :-)

Thanks for the comments guys. If you like it now then (hopefully) you'll love it when it is finished!! LOL

Anyway, so far:

Zane: Funky, fresh and very fluid! Great lead and tones. Welll impressive!

Zap: I liked the first one best! it had an 80's ZZ Top feel! No.4 was a close second Great tones and yes, a kind of Eastern feel! Great stuff all round

Big D: Wow, for a folky clean toned player you got a bit down and dirty mate! A stones feel I thought and a real grower! Well done!

Guitarpima: Stylish and different (that bass line! LOL) great tones and again, good rythm and a fluid feel! Nice one

So, one D & B and a range different of tunes! Fantastic! Just shows that although D & B may be the driving force, it's the guitarists that make the tunes!!

Well here's my starter for ten... I got the rythmn bit done on the acoustic with a lead in bit on the leccy, but alas I have run out of quality guitar time for a few days due to work being busy so if anyone wants to add a twiddle then go ahead and help me out. I was contemplating adding a lyric and singing but that's out the window too for the time being at least, so you're lucky there.

Fantastic work by everyone so far, what an excellent idea this is.

Zeusse that was really cool. I kept thinking of White Lion or bands of that era. Definitly an air guitar track.

Farl that was a better take. I love the riffs. You need to tweak your levels better though. Other than that a great bit there.

Farl

I am no expert but the level look fine on the media player. Maybe it is being recorded to loud or the different track levels are too loud going to the master and being squased by a compressor. I notice in Sonar I have to wet my brick wall compressor to -1db. I do try and make my levels (all tracks) peack there anyway. I have to do that because my soundcard seems to be reading louder than my master in Sonar.

When I record my tracks, I try to make my peaks as close to 0db without going over. I don't have great gear so it is not easy. When it comes to mixing them, none of the tracks reach that far. Maybe someone here knows more than I do though. My big learning adventure for this challenge is all the different automations available to me and how to use them.

Funny thing is I reduced the levels twice before posting, must be something about this track that makes you want to play loud. Thanks for the thumbs up.
