Ok there it is....and this time it's a bit different.
I've made that one more slow for the kind of soul lead. I based my self on a guy called Kim Mitchell.

For the newbies..:Just download the Back track , play a solo on it and post it back here.

I also have an Idea which is to have two categories:Intermediate and beginner.

You will have the choice to choose in which one you fit. Let me know if this is good. I think it will let a chance to Shy beginners to participate.

Here is the chords: First pattern (a,g,a,g) Second pattern ( f,g,a - f,g,a,g,a#,a) Third pattern (e,g,a,c,a)

Great Idea and, a great backer for the more melodic (er... slow LOL) amongst us although I'll bet that someone will find a way of getting 20 notes per second in there at some point!! LOL

Anyway, I'll have a bash at this one although I may just wait to see what it turns out like before I tell you if I'm a shy begginer or not!!

Here you go, am I the first ? tried about 20 takes couldn't decide which one to post, turns out its about the second one I did, cos unlike most people on this forum I use cubase and I only know how to download the backtrack and put my take over the top then post it, I aint got a clue how to edit anything I do,so the take has to go right from start to finish any mistakes and the whole things in the bin!! anyway enough of that, I used my 05 lp std fingerpicked ( I only know how to fingerpick, never used a pick, wouldn't know what to do with one !!) and used my only means of getting it down, a crappy zoom g2, ...FRANK http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=493618

Flashriffs aka Mr Blues, very nicely done dude, I'm perplexed as to how you can play like that using fingerpicking but top marks for doing it your own way.

Rob, I could almost hear the teardrops hitting the floor, you played that with a lot of soul and emotion, good work.

Steve, you never fail to impress with your playing, it all sounds so fluid & natural and the tone blends in so well with the bt.

I'll try to get something done on this later on today.

Rick
28-09-2006, 05:06 PM
guess i won't win any prizes with my effort, but it is nice to be back playing again!

i was totally stuck on the end with just a A to play over so i just played out the rhythm.

i'll probably do another version without the bum notes, but like i say its just great to be playing again.

I like all the versions above. Each player made something different.

Unfortunately my english is so bad, I can't compliment everybody on the parts that I liked most, but I wanted to mention the fingerpicking of Flashriff as absolutely fantastic without a pick!

Anyway, as you've mentioned lately of my absence here, I've been very busy, but got myself a half an hour to make this sloppy stuff.

Rick great to hear you playing again, It reminded me of an American TV series theme tune but I cant think what it was nice playing tho mate.

John your playing/tone is instantly recognisable you seem to be able to play over anything was that a pitch shifter or wammy effect at the end?

John: I really enjoyed this one.I thought the pedal was excellent and executed perfectly! And for sure the unique tone of yours!

Eric: I'm having more and more respect for you! You are like a cameleon (Spelling?) At first I thought you were only a shredder but I was wrong. You can play very well many styles!

Well this isnt really an entry for the challenge, just found my electric sitar in the corner and thought I would give it a run out, plus a few other noodley idea's. I am suffering from the lack of inspiraion syndrome just now but I know that at times like these it's best to play yourself out of them by just getting on with it, so this is a result of that. I think it's just as important to let out the bad / average stuff too. All too often we only get to hear the polished stuff, so thought it time to put that right....... :wall:

Flashriffs: Glad to know there is a fellow fingerpicker in the forum. I have not done to much since playing the classical guitar. You make me want to grow my nails back. great riffs. 8-)

Rlee: You captured the feel of the BT very well. Good job.

Zuesse: Nice an laid back. Very cool.

Zane: That was slick. After that one, we should call you "Mr. Ice".

Rick: That was BIG!!! :thumb: :thumb: I wish I had a smoke. LOL

Zombo: You have a unique style. That was very well done. I want to know if the aliens landed at the end there.

sIN: Very good. Great intro and some good whammy work.

Zappafan: I loved the intro. and the meshing of the leads. Very cool.:thumb: :thumb:

Catching up after a few days of being too busy to spend much time here...

Rick......... Very ballsy stuff there matey

John........ Classic zombo signature on this and I loved the satrianiesque pitch-shifting at the end.

Eric......... An interesting departure from your usual stuff, nice and mellow.

siN.......... Nice stuff dude, I wouldn't describe it as a 'sloppy' effort, that's a word I reserve for my playing.

Neal........ That was just plain weird... weird is good!

G/pima.... I really enjoyed that a lot, very tasteful phrasing.

Steved.... Did you record that in a subway? that is some serious reverb! excellent playing as always.

Unfortunately I have been unable to participate in this one. Not enough spare time and a total lack of inspiration. It's been a real pleasure listening to everyone elses though.

SteveDak: Very good work from you. I liked your change with the harmonizer. I never liked harmonizers though. I would use them if you could set the key and be able to change the key via midi. I only type that because the P5 is is not always perfect for all notes. Really cool work.

thanks GP, but it's not a harmonizer, it's actually triple-tracked guitar doing 3 part harmonies--3 tracks each on the left and right playing the same part, and 3 tracks in the middle playing the little counterpoint bit. I never could get the hang of those harmonizers, I prefer to do it the hard way!

I do my own harmony tracks as well, I prefer it a little loose even, gives it a type of delay.

I liked what you did. Very interesting. It is contrapuntal in nature but it is more like, well the best way to explain is: When I was in jazz band in high school, we played the 12 bar blues as warm up. I played bass but everyone else had they're own riffs they were playing. Imaging 5 trumpets, 4 trombones and 4 saxaphones all playing what they want and trying to make it coherant. It was not bad (the jazz band). Yours was very coherant. Great job.8-) 8-)

Kinda laid back there Barry ..... could maybe have done with a bit more variation and a few more Volts to give it a tad more on the dynamics front. Just my opinion you know .... but keep up the good work :thumb:
