I have an idea to help out Rick finance the site. I will make a CD with one song from each member on the site. You, the member, can choose which song you want on the CD.It can be an original or a cover.Every time someone will make a donation to Rick for his site,I will send him a 6stringheaven CD as a small gift for your donation. This CD will have a designed cover and personal comments from the members. Do you think it's a good Idea??? please vote on the poll to let me know if I should do it.

Great idea but the copywrite thing on the covers might be a problem. Original stuff only would get round that one...

I don't know how copywrite works, but I wouldn't put a song there without permission. I also don't think that all of the members have there songs copywrite. I know some of the real Pro's like you and Danni Danzi have copywrite. I respect that and wouldn't mess with that. Each songs on the Cd will show from who it is . I want to say that if Rick agree with this, that it will stay confidential between Rick an I.We don't want to show others who is donating.

No,I wouldn't do that just for the fact that the Cd will be in Mp3, and I would be busy making them all day long :hammer: I think it will motivate people to donate a bit to help out, and in return , you get a CD from us the members.
it's not illegal to record covers, as long as you don't make money from them.
i'm for it, and I want to be on it (LOL)
btw, wahwah - i'm kirkh from G101
EDIT : one suggestion - we all get a copy of the CD for free (if we are on it)

As for the copywrite....I am talking about the songs that were posted on this site.
not a song from your album.
i know, just release the cd from iraq!
copyright is the least of the problems for that country!!
good idea though!! nice one steve!
Great Idea Im workin on a couple of covers now.

I take it I can cover an old blues standard :) There can't be a copyright issue there :D
I think it's a cool idea and I'd be delighted to be on it... just need some new strings so I can start recording again.
sounds like a logistical challenge
(c) copyright nothing...
the cd is free you just pay for postage and packaging :thumb:

Haha Farl you hit the nail on the head..As personal note to any members that might take Zane's comments the wrong way...Don't you have to keep in mind he's from Quebec and all Quebecers come off sounding the wrong way...LOL Trust me I know I'm there everyday..Steve is one of the nicest guys I have ever met and doesn't have a mean bone in his body. His englais as we say is always in a state of improvement..like all Quebecers..LOL:poke: When it seems to you a comment from Steve is questionable ask yourself this question: How well can you type and speak French..I know even for me my French sucks and have people I deal with in Montreal when I'm working that either laugh at my attempt or want to kill me...Sorry if I'm boring you I just want to make sure you all understand English is not everyones first language..Steve only has the best intentions for this site and has been a great friend to all of us since he joined 6SH.
Disclaimer:
Attention: This comment is not directed at anyone its just me wanting everyone to get this into a proper perspective....Ok back to my beer!
p.s.
Great idea Steve by the way just charge a big sur-charge for packaging and you can't be sued for that....my lawyers are on the case if needed..LOL

Ok, I think it was a good Idea! I will start working on the design of the cover this Monday. I will also contact you guys for songs selection. You can also prepare some comments for the song you wrote or covered. Thank you all.

Why not make it all original material? It would be more interesting, there'd be no issues with copyright and we could say it is all our own work.

I agree with you on this one. We could even have a section on the Cd with all round up jams we had on 6SH. Like you said, no problems with copyrights.
Good Idea.

agreed,,,, i dont realy listen to covers anyway, i respect the people who do them for their dedication to nail a track and make it near perfect. kudos to them, but for myself i feel its a waste of energy when i could be creating something new but im probably in the minoraty there, the cd itself is a great idea providing you have permision for every song you use from the person who wrote it
have to agree with you chris, covers are cool live,
but I prefere listening to originals when it comes to records!

Yeah...not sure if you misunderstood but I was only meaning people doing covers of other people's songs. I think it would be better both artisticly and the law-side, to do an original so you can show yourself off for YOUR own work. If it's a blues standard...no worries, as long as you make it your own, give it a title and put your name to it. Great idea BTW.

Yes , the Cd will only have original material on it.I didn't think about copyright of the covers..better not take a chance, and I think it would be more interesting with original music on it.
