WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO THE FORUM

Well I managed to get the forum back up and running after the major system crash a couple of nights back.
So here's the problems from the 6th feb the database has been corrupted somehow, i say somehow because I can't find the error but the forum software will not accept the restore from any date after this.
This means that every post, new user and modification from the 6th feb at 8.pm gmt has been lost and thats all there is to it.
It could be far worse, the server was obviously writing to the database as it crashed as the original machine db is wrecked, luckily i had local backup and a server bourne backup and from the 2 have managed to recreate everything up to the 6th. So there we have it, if you registered after the 6th I'm sorry but you will have to re-register.

After 2 days of hard work i guess i just threw the towel in.
if anybody is a mysql wizard and doesn't mind crashing through a 9mb database for FREE please let me know!

well i hope not,
I thought the backup regime i had would be fine, "how wrong was I".
From now i will have a shadow forum running and data will be transferred everyday.
Im going to buy some decent mysql stuff like mysql front and i guess it's about time i brushed up on things php/mysql.

Ok, i spoke to rob the tech guy at my Isp and the old database is a gonner so we have 2 weeks of our lives missing.

He also said he thinks he found the problem with the server, apparently he wasn't hitting it hard enough :lol: so i posted him a bigger hammer.

it pretty funny really re living some of the old posts, who votes we make it crash more often!.

rumour has it that the isp is moving the forum to a server that won't die everytime the going gets tough.
so we will have to wait and see what happens.
if you feel you don't want to post anything at the moment i understand.
These crashing issues will be resolved this week.

ok im informed by rob (core-isp) that the server will be being moved back to it's rightful home possibly sometime tomorrow 9th march.
This means the forum will be down again for a few hours during the day uk time.
The server has had a total rebuild, and has had the OS reinstalled this should fix the problems we have been having, now i know i've said this before but the isp is on a last last last chancer with this, 1 more crash and we are away he assures me all should be cool from now in.

The Isp has just informed me that the server will be going back onto the fast link tomorrow. (i just hope it comes true)

this means the site will be offline for a few hours but it'll be worth it.
