you should just be able to download the latest AVG free version, they aren't taking the freebie away (as far as I know) just every now and then they expire a version.
Avast is pretty good too and is also free.

I find that Panda Titanium is one of the best you can get. Many of my customers are using this product. Since I've tried it, I've stop having trouble. You can download the demo and I can show you a little trick to take it out from the window registry so you can update it for free for life. The great thing about it is that it doesn't slow down your computer and it's pretty powerful.
Titanium was the 2006 version You can download the anti virus , fire wall , spam, 2007 version.

I run McAfee, which my company pays for, and in the last 18 months I havent had one issue with a virus. I think the best way to avoid viruses is to stay away from the "here have this for free sites" they are a breeding ground and distibution centre for the viruses. I am not a great beleiver in the free AV software, during my time in IT, some 25 years, I have had to evaluate just about every product on the market and you cant beat the big name players. The main issue with AV products is that they only detect the virus once it has done some damage to your files. Where the big players in the market stand out is there ability to give you tools to get your PC back up and running in the event that you get a virus of some sort. Plus the speed in which they provide protection for new viruses that come along. Whilst it may seem a lot to pay for your AV each year, think of the amount of hours it will take to put your PC back together, and how valuable your files are to you. When you consider that, it's a small price to pay.
The other thing I invested in was a wireless router with a built in firewall from Netgear. Cost me about £60 but it has saved me lots of time and trouble. Out of the £££££ £Â£Â£Â£Â£Â£1 000's I have spent on computer gear it has to be the best £60 I have spent.

another great one that is free is called Antivir I have used it for years on and off, had panda, and bitdefender, and was a faithful traveler to antivirus.com, the best way is to not focus on just one brand, as they jump ahead of each other in virus knowledge.
