We used to do this a while back and this is how it goes....

I'll post an unacompanied snatch of a song (riff or lead break is fine) and it is up for guessing but... only guess if you are prepared to post the next one and, if you are going to post then do it within a day. No damned obscure stuff to try and stump everyone or people will loose interest so, classics please :thumb:

So... the rules are:

20 to 40 second snatch of a song
Unacompanied guitar
Only guess if you are going to post
Post within a day (or so)
Nothing obscure!I'll start it off with one that everyone on earth should know!! (just to get it going!!) It should be a chance for guitarists of all ability to post something.

Ok, this is not great because I don't have the right gear but it is close enough to guess. I don't know if I am out of turn though. Farl got the song right, he just did get the name or group.

I just read back through the posts and Zappafan got it right. Sorry, I did not mean to go out of turn.

Farl

Highway Star
28-11-2006, 11:55 AM
Actually, the more I think about it, the more I come to the conclusion that I did not really make myself clear. The "nothing obscure" rule was there to make this game easy but we are getting guitar versions of whistled lyrics, songs that have been covered by several people (albeit a classic) and now more of a sound effect. My first one was easy, it was meant to be so that a quick reply with another easy one could be posted.

So.......

The object of the game is not to see if you can stump anyone
The object of the game is not to show your knowledge of the obscure
the object of the game is to play a snatch of a classic that is fairly easy to get
The object of the game is to make it easy hence it will flow fast and anyone of any ability can learn a snatch of a classic

So, not having a go at anyone, in fact I'm chuffed that people are "up for it" but guys, snatches of classics will keep this going far better. Apologies if I had not made that clear. A seperate thread could also be started for a "Name that Tune" that is a bit more cryptic if required but... I feel it would disapear off the radar after a couple of days.

I'll post another dead easy one to get this moving again in a few minutes.

Cheers,

Farl

I would not worry to much. After a while, songs start sounding the same sometimes and it can be difficult to remember which tune is what. I used to have to remember Gregorian chants and Motets in "history of music", in college. That was not fun. Talk about things sounding the same.

Anyway, good job steve! Did the clue help?

How about a clue?

:nervous: I think its my playing thats the trouble.

Okay.....big voice, short guy, sung with one of the biggest bands ever when he replaced the lead singer. He also had a spell with a group which was fronted by a guitar legend with a trademark white strat.

Was also in band called Elf.........which depictes him quite well.

You're right BD. It is Dio. I was just looking at Canyon Carvers thread when he posted a great version of 'Stand up and Shout' which you commented about, so I thought you'd get close.

I think I may have fallen foul of what Farl stated about nothing too obscure. Sorry about that everyone. Its difficult, whats obscure to one isn't to another. Course it doesn't help playing like I do:dead:

If no one gets it before tomorrow morning, I'll reveal the tracks name.

The band is April Wine. The song is "All Over Town". I thought for sure the grape juice in early spring would help out. Especially when I mentioned being intoxicated.

I can't put another one up. Going on holiday in Florida, USA. Disney World for christmas for my son. Boy is he wound up. Type to later after the holidays.
