Hi all,

I'm on the hunt for an Ibanes JS1000 in sparkle black (like the photo below). If anyone knows of one for sale (preferably in the UK) then please give me a shout. I've seen a couple in the states for around £600 but I don't want to pay a load of shipping costs or imp[rt duties. Anyway Rob said there was not a floyd rose job anywhere in my collection and that I should put that right so I sold the Tele and the Ibanez Artcore that I had and I'm on the hunt!!

Farl to be honest I would go with either one from the States or Oz just now the exchange rate is so good it will cover the shipping . You will pay over the odds for it in UK as the Black Pearl is not currently part of UK ibanez range but they are still selling them overseas so more chance of picking one up.

I feared that may be the case. Is yours a JS1000 or 1200 Stew?? As far as I have heard and acording to all that I've read they are the Dogs Danglers!

THe BTB Burnt Transparent Blue is a 1000 which gives it Paf Pro in the neck just like what you are looking for where as the 1200 Candy Apple has Paf Joe. Don't think there is a huge differnce in these pickups so realistically it is preference of colour. IMO the PAf Pro in the neck is awesome. The DimArzio website has pickup choser where you can up about the minor differences. Other than that Farl if you are looking at a BP which is 2001 model it will have lo-pro trem rather than edge-pro which is subtley different.

Oh yes I confirm it is the Dogs Danglers!!! Not really played any other guitar in months.

You'll be on a high when you see it Farl they are quite something in the flesh...photos don't do the Black Pearl finish justice. Another thing that will blow you away is the aerofoil shape of the guitar. I have never had a guitar that sits so comfortably as my JS. Ah there will be some Satch Boogie'ing when it arrives

well, he can still send it back if somethings wrong.

I doubt that though, it's first class brand new JS1000, should be mint.

Stew
08-01-2007, 08:44 PM
Yeah should be good Ini it has subtle differences compared to the 2001 Black Pearl model ie edge pro not lo-pro and the nut is completely within the neck rather than having those silly holes in the back.

You normally get a bill through the post at a later date unless the ebay seller was kind enough to mark it as a gift but that is maybe wishful thinking.

This is what they document looks like. I've obliterated certain details for reasons of personal security.

Thanks Six but.... do you mean a week from when it hit customs or a week after you paid the bill?? Also, how long was it from the guitar arriving at customs to you actually getting the bill. If my new toy is going to arrive in the UK next week, how long do you guess it will be before I see it or, in other words, can you do me some form of time line please...

I can't quite read the bill but it looks like £39 for customs plus the standard 17.5% VAT. Is that right??

Yep even if it is used, you pay the taxman. I think you even pay on gifts over a certain value.

Thing is on the 2 guitars I have imported from tokyo I only paid customs on one seems to be random.

The guitar was cleared for delivery by customs, I then recieved the guitar from DHL, approximately one week later I recieved the bill.

Customs cleared the guitar for delivery within 24 hours, it was then in my hands within 24 hours of clearance.

Yes, the customs charge was £39 plus standard VAT.

It took three days from leaving Scott at Vwallguitars to arriving at my house. Astonishing really. Things can take longer from one UK destination to another.

What a result!! The Parcelforce paperworks reads as follow:

Import duty = £0
Excise Duty = £0
VAT = £25.95
Parcelforce clearance fee = £13.50

Total to pay = £39.45!!

That means it was marked for customs purposes at a value of £148.30!! LOL what a result! and.... it should be delivered tomorrow!!!

It has arrived!! They delivered to my house not to where I work. Luckily.... Amanda was in so signed for it. I get an hour for luch and live just over 20mins away so I've just been to check it was all OK (and all there!) and it is pukka! Brand new, still in the box, and really nice. I guess (after reading loads of reports) that I'll spend a while tinkering and making adjustments but first impressions are that it looks spot on and felt very comfortable. I'm not used to guitars being that light though and it does feel physically small. Tonight, as luck would have it, I'm booked up for squash so by the time I get home and eat, it's gonna be at least 9pm before I get to play with it and attempt to sort out the action, intonation etc. Oh well, happy days ahead!

Photos later with a bit of luck although it may be better to wait for some decent light tomorrow.

Well chuffed for you Farl.

One bit of advice for you, though it may be a bit late by now, don't spend too much time on setting up intonation and action etc. until it's had time to 'settle in', you see the change in humidity from USA to UK and having spent a few hours in the planes freezing cold 'hold' means that any adjustments made will just need making again in another week or so. It takes a while for the wood to adjust and find its equilibrium so to speak.
