Ok since I'm quite curious to see who can produce the best ONE NOTE and remember no backing track no effects that includes reverb and delay just a clean one note this is a challenge anybody can do....very simple record yourself hitting ONE NOTE only and nothing else hold it for at least 4 to 8beats or longer if you can but no effects you can bend it or vibrattto it but no slidding or hammer.ons or harmonics just one simple note....Ok mine will be up tommorrow....there you go Farl the real challenge....LOL

hey farl we can produce a huge CD with that!

imagine... 12 different notes played by 12 different players on one single CD!
more than 20 seconds running time! with bonus features (interviews with eric and farley in the booklet and many more!)
don't miss this golden opportunity!

Does strumming (picking) the note count? lol :mrgreen:I'd say rick stumming would be considered a bevy of notes just the one note only....Ican see you trying to find an edge here...LOL

Yes Farl I just think the one note that kills is a theory to be tested...your thoughts provoked this and Danni's....which I want to hear all the members on this one....no excuses its just one totally clean note and just to make it absolutely clear on the rules no effects and you can even use an acoustic guitar if you prefer.

If I use my 12 string am I allowed to play two notes an octave apart?

ok guys, my homemade reverse headstock axe, JCM800 and 1960A cab. 43 seconds of feedback stupidity - I cut it short as I was getting a bit bored ;) It should be an E bent from the high D on the 5th string, but I didn't check the tuning and intonation *cough*

Removed as it had a bit of reverb on it  new one on next page!

just one totally clean note

ah, is mine disqualified then? Back to the drawing board :( and it was my bestest Parisienne Walkways note as well :(

I will say dude it was a nice note but I heard that delay or reverb at the end:nono: .....must be totally clean but the vibrat bend was real good:smile:

yeah sorry I realised afterwards there was a bit of reverb dialled in on the amp.... hang on a tick, I'll do another :)

Here you go, reverb wound right off, anything else is natural! and I think the vibrato on this is better and not so obvious a transition to feedback - messed around with the amp EQ. Only 32 seconds before I got a bit bored this time though.

Did I mention I love this amp, and thats the clean channel

If natural amplifier-overdrive is allowed then what about digital distortion for those who do not have a valve amp?
Also, tubes provide natural compression... does this mean an ampless guy can substitute compression from his pod/gt8/gnx etc?

Bah, I still wouldn't get close to bluesgeeks sustain.

Gotta get me one of them there sustainiacs.

 its hard to beat a marshall stack dimed to the max, though I'm sure the neighbours would love to beat me with it at times ;) The shameful part is that its not my loudest amp  no wonder I'm deaf...

Natural amplified overdrive until it feeds back.... Hmmmm.... one natural undistorted note?...... Hmmmm..... "Totally clean" I think not young BG!! LOL

Now all I have is the Wolf plugged in the dry input of the Fender Twin Reverb and thats it no effects but I've cranked the amp all the way up....oooo I'm deaf....there is no distortion on this amp I'm just vibrating the string on the D on the 5th fret on the A string...

If Eric meant that no effects includes overdrive or distortion, I'd have to wonder about the intentions, but he didn't say who could play the longest note - but the BEST note.

I've modified the electronics on my guitar to include a special circuit of my own design(I'm an electronics technician by trade) which has a more pronounced effect for a preamp stage on the raw guitar signal that affects the tone and dynamics, and enhances certain harmonic characteristics of the signal. You really can't hear it much on a raw guitar signal, but it works out really well for my style of playing with overdrive and distortion, otherwise. With it, I can induce a gradual harmonic(and anti-harmonic, lol) wave effect on the signal for certain notes while applying finger vibrato without picking the string. This effect is greatly enhanced when I play with feedback(That's another story, lol).

So having said that, if it is an absolutely clean amplified "one note" signal that Eric wants to hear, I think you're mostly going to hear what the guitar sounds like, and not really what the player sounds like.

If someone has a preamp kit installed in their guitar, will that disqualify them from the challenge?

....hehe...ok I thought I thought of most of the criteria but I would say a preamp is an addition to the original amp and would conclude to be an additonal drive...anyway you can disconnect it..LOL But if you can keep it as clean as possible that would be fine Rick....but you can crank the amp I just said no effects and only on the clean channel..no extra drive except for the master volume.....your best judgement so all is fair...and natural feed back is totally acceptable.
