Do remember, this is not a Competition! its just for fun and people will just choose the best cover!

That sounds very much like a competition to me :-)

Viscolex

hehehe

well, i mean, its nothing serious!

Six
25-04-2007, 12:05 PM
I can't help myself... I'm going to get all pedantic again.

This is a more of a contest than a competition.

Contest = Struggle for victory or superiority.
Competition = Challenge endured to gain a winners prize.

It could be argued that they should be the other way round so just ignore me!

25-04-2007, 07:15 PM
Maiden eh?? I think that's enough of a "challenge" to get me recording again. As stated earlier, Tony's probably recorded the whole catalog... how do we get around that one?

Scott

Viscolex
25-04-2007, 07:48 PM

I think I'll be posting a little closer to the deadline...

Let Tony post 3... that will spread out the voting too thin for him so he won't "win". :)

Tony and I did a good Maiden cover a while ago, but I am still waiting for the vocals. Our singer has had setbacks. I will contact him and tell him to try and whip this up in time for the contest.

I would love for you guys to hear Tony and I rip it. It was the most fun I have had in a long time. Looking forward to this one. It will be great to hear what others have to contribute.

Here's our submission to the Maiden Challenge. It's Montségur from Iron Maiden's 2003 album Dance Of Death.

http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=340628

The band:

Vocals: Vanman2000 (Bob)
Rythm right channel and middle: Tony4552 (Tony)
Rythm Left channel and Solo: Canyon Carver (Ben)
Backing track from MIDI by CC.

And now for a little history:

In 1243–44, the Cathars (a religious sect considered heretical by the Roman Catholic Church) were besieged at Montségur by 10,000 royal Catholic French troops at the end of the Albigensian Crusade. In March 1244, the Cathars finally surrendered and approximately 220 were burned en masse in a bonfire at the foot of the pog when they refused to renounce their faith. Some 25 actually took the ultimate Cathar vow of consolamentum perfecti in the two weeks before the final surrender.
In the days prior to the fall of the fortress, several Cathars allegedly slipped through the French lines carrying away a mysterious "treasure" with them. While the nature and fate of this treasure has never been identified, there has been much speculation as to what it might have consisted of — from the treasury of the Cathar Church to esoteric books or even the actual Holy Grail.

Note: I grew up an hour away from Montségur and took a school trip there as a kid. The place is filled with history and a strange vibe... Enjoy the photos too.

http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h105/canyoncarver/Various/Montsegur1.jpg

Here are the lyrics:

stand alone in this desolate space
In death they are truly alive
Massacred innocence, evil took place
The angels were burning inside

Centuries later I wonder why
What secret they took to their grave
Still burning heretics under our skies
Religion's still burning inside

[Chorus:]
At the gates and the walls of Montsegur
Blood on the stones of the citadel
At the gates and the walls of Montsegur
Blood on the stones of the citadel
At the gates and the walls of Montsegur
Blood on the stones of the citadel
At the gates and the walls of Montsegur
Blood on the stones of the citadel

As we kill them all so God will know his own
The innocents died for the Pope on his throne
Catholic greed and its paranoid zeal
Curse of the grail and the blood of the cross

Templar believers with blood on their hands
Joined in the chorus to kill on demand
Burned at the stake for their soul's liberty
To stand with the cathars, to die and be free

The book of Old Testament crippled and black
Satan - his weapon is lust
Leaving this evil damnation of flesh
Back to the torture of lies

The perfect ones willingly died at the stake
And all of their followers slain
As for the knowledge of God they had claimed
Religion's still burning inside

[Repeat chorus, 3rd verse]

Templar believers with blood on their hands
Joined in the chorus to kill on command
Burned at the stake for their soul's liberty
Still running herretics under our skies

As we kill them all so God know his own
Laugh at the darkness and in god we trust
The eye in the triangle smiling with sin
No passover feast for the cursed within

Facing the sun as they went to their grave
Burn like a dog or you live like a slave
Death is the price for your soul's liberty
To stand with the cathars and to die and be free

[Repeat chorus]

Great work CC. I was never much of a Maiden fan so I've never heard this one. The singer is very close otherwise I would have thought it was Mainen.

Hollowed be thy Six! Sounds great!

i love this song!!! so i covered it

a bit late... but better late than never

i didnt really learn it off at all... the solo's where improvised, the rhythm was played how i wanted to play it, etc..

but i did try to make it sound massive!!! 1 guitar on the left... second guitar on the right with the same tone... and a thickner guitar in the middle with more crunchy tone

every part was played and dubbed manually

hope you like it!

Nice job Andy! I don't know the song cause I'm not an Iron Maiden fan but it sounds really tight. I thought the lead solos had to much reverb.
