This southern rock challenge produced diverse playing from seven contestants. Many thanks to those who participated! Now it's time to vote and see which entry reigns supreme. Great playing and good luck to all!

Well..... I listened to them all (several times) and....

Barry - Very Neil Young (as I thought it would be!) Nice tones!

Doug - Very Southern for one so Northern! Yep, Liked it a lot!

Canyon Carver - Great tone and Licks! Loved the bends and the "raw" feel as well!

GP - Another well thought out and well played piece!! Niceley done my friend!

Peter - Very smooth! Couldn't resist a little shred! Ha! Nice, really liked that!

Rick - Well... you really know the Southern scale! Very nice and excellently played! Loved it!

So.... only one vote!! Bugger! anyhow, at the end one really got the hairs on the back of the neck standing up (close one though!) and my vote is cast...

Back from doing chores, lol.

BigD - Great use of bends, and that tone! Good pentatonic action going there.

bwdavis - Definitely Neil Young influence in there! Very nice warm tones there.

CC - Cool sounding tone! I like how you took a minor pentatonic approach to the backer. Very nicely done.

GP - Good job, bro! I Like the harmonies at the end - very fitting!

Norm - Hendrix indeed! That is a cool sound for this one!

Peter - Southern shred! what else more can I say!

Great job guys!

As always, I usually look at articulation, choice of notes, timing, originality, and overall sound. My vote's in

Bigdoug: I like this tone. I also like some of the double bends you are using.

bwdavis99: Good note choice. You are not trying to shred but follow the song's theme as it goes. Well done.

Guitarpima: You are playing closely to what's recognized as the SoRock scale. I like the phrasing. It's great in the second half particularly in the triplets. Harmonies are great.

Highwaystar: Love how you started before the backer. Very balsy tone and authoritative playing. Excellent.

Petermoran: Loving the phrasing from the word go. Cool tone. Excellent result.

Rick: This one is dripping with SoRock attitude and phrasing. Excellent piece.

My vote is cast for Guitarpima for his tone and musicality.

I have a funky backer coming up, but I can't decide if I want to do a jam or a competition with it!

I might start more competitions, but I kind of feel guilty having an unfair advantage - like with this one for instance. Having lived in Florida and jammed with Stevie Holland(Molley Hatchet) and a few other well known southern rock aficionados, LOL. You guys can kick me out of this one if you like.

Nah.... We all had the same challenge. I on the other hand have never jammed with anyone since the age of 18 so.... my playing is not tainted by others!! LOL

Yep, fun it was as will be the next one. This site is my only interaction with other musicians. I really love the oportunity to play without fear of criticism, ridicule or sniping of any sort and the site is totally non ageist, old and young together with a common interest. I've learnt as much here from 14 and 15 year olds as from the more mature fella's. The comments are always encouraging, contructive and/or helpful. Without this site my playing would not have improved anywhere near as fast. I no longer stick with rock and join in with blues, funk and even reggae! In reality, I would not have attempted these before. The voting on these threads in in a way irrelevant in my view. Having the skilled and experienced players playing alongside with the bedroom players is far more important and excellent for those of us who would otherwise never play as much and certainly never get heard. Fun?? damned right it is! My job is stressy at times, my hobby is fun! Great!
