Has any body noticed the irate comments some people leave on youtube threads? It's astonishing how abusive people can be, simply because someone said something negative about there fave guitar hero, or football team, or David Hasslehoff

I have been drawn in once or twice but have pulled back at the brink of becoming part of the obnoxious herd. So many unhappy and angry people in society today.

Any 6stringers care to take part in a mature and respectful discussion?

It's a sad state of affairs I agree Paul. Wouldn't have happened when I was a lad :-) Why people have to be so defensive about their guitar hero's is somewhat beyond me. The fact that they become so blinkered and close their eyes and ears to any discussion is disturbing. Very much along the lines of a section of the people who seem to follow football these days. I have chosen not to get drawn into those type of discussions any more and tend to leave them to it. There comments arent of any real importance anyway ....... so file them away in the recycle bin of life where they belong.

Don't get me started! LOL

Just a few days ago I left a comment on a video and part of what I said was 'Jimi Hendrix was an over-rated crap musician'. I was merely stating my opinion and was not out to offend anyone, after all, the person I critisised is dead so he couldn't take offense.
Then this guy hit me with a torrent of verbal abuse. Amongst other equally nasty things, he accused me of being "a f*c*ing retard"... how utterly pathetic.

You must have known someone would come right back at ya saying something like that about a guitar players Icon.

Each to his own of course and I am actually proud of myself NOT verbally abusing you six :-) :thumb: (Rob bites down on tongue and draws blood)

I recently commented that...Allan Holdsworth has always been, still is and always will be a great favorite of mine, but that I felt his improvising these days in a live situation left me cold. I also said that AH does not have change anything to suit me as he is an artist who has my full respect and can do whatever he likes.

Well.....the abusive replies, the bad language, the "I know more than you" attitude was over whelming. I had to then reply by saying that the subject matter was not really THAT important and did not merit the intensity of the emotional response.

Perhaps the level of anger is indicative of something not being expressed elsewhere in those persons lives.

It now seems that the more we have in this spoiled, decedent and bloated society, the more unfulfilled and resentful some people become. Shame really...

I personally find it quite shocking when somebody puts up a video and to be fair they are probably playing there absolute best even thought it might not be that good and these crazies just go on one, but its not just that you also find them on astonishing playing, i would birch them!

you can rely on the fact that all the bullshitters couldn't hold a candle to any of the video's anyway.

I know what everyone is saying and all I can say is, "it will get worse". Gloomy outlook yes, but you have to look at the world in a macro view and not micro. Our lives on this planet our driven by one thing and EVERYONE is guilty. I realize that everyone wants to get ahead and wants great things. Most times if they look at what they have, they may see they have what they need. (Did I just sound like Mick).

Very few can just be happy with what they already have. So really this discussion is pointless. It will never change until everyone does. In case your wondering what the hell I am blabbing about. This world will NEVER evolve until we can elvolve past capitalism. It is doomed to fail as it always has. Were just to stupid to learn from out mistakes. Look at Iraq. those people have been fending off people since recorded time and not "The Deac" (goerge bush) thinks he can change them. Maybe they want change but they have to do it for themselves. Ozzy says "You can't kill rock and roll". It would probably die is capitalism did.

I have to disagree with you Six about Hendrix. I saw videos of him when he was not too smashed. He was a brilliant blues player. Also, his recorded stuff was way ahead of his time. He, Janis Joplin and a few others were victimized by they're own fame and the industry. Sad.

That's perfectly fine. This is the thing about opinions, we all have them, a lot of us like to express them and most of the time somebody will openly disagree with them. Some say that Hendrix had soul unlike Satriani, others say Satriani has soul whereas Hendrix did not. It's impossible to quantify feeling and emotion and let's face it, that is the true mark of a great musician, so Hendrix can be a great musician to those whose souls are touched by his music... personally, I'm not one of them.
The point of this is: you expressed your disagreement and gave your reasons for disagreeing. I respect that.
When some illiterate imbecile on YouTube accuses me of being stupid and calls me a retard...huh? then I don't respect that, in fact I find it highly offensive.

So, to get this thread back on track, I'm not sure that the pathetic remarks people make on YouTube have anything to do with capitalism. I think it's more due to a general lack of intellect among the ones that make the insulting comments. There are plenty of intelligent people making intelligent comments, unfortunately there are many morons making moronic comments.

I watched one of Visco's vids once, then I read through the comments that people had left. One guy said something along the lines of... 'You're sitting there playing this as though you're a good guitarist, yet you're not. Maybe you should actually learn to play properly before you start posting video's of yourself on Youtube'
Not only was this unnecessarily offensive but it lacked any semblance of constructive critisism... I should also add that it contained numerous grammatical errors.
Stupid people = stupid comments.

i have to agree with you Six

some people think Hendrix is god - but put him next to today's guitarists - he'd be outdone

I would very much doubt that Kirk.

Maybe in a technique, speed, I know a zillion scales type competition.

I would think if given the chance most guitarists would be nervous getting up to play with Jimi Hendrix.

well yeah - i'm talking from a technical standpoint

i'd be hellish nervous to get up and play with Hendrix - being the legend that he is
