great challenge Rick welldone guys. :thumb: I nearly voted for GP, as it really captured the theme I just loved the howlng and stuff going on there, but Kirk gets it from me as it was a bit scary with some great sounds in it. The rest of you lot were very good and I cant remember a jam with so much great chops on display. FANTASTIC thank you.

Well.... I just listened to them all and then, I listened again and now, hell, I can't make up my mind! I could pick any of them and whichever I chose would have a merit that would make it worthy! So... I'll listen again, and again until one has a little more merit than the others! Hell, good job guys, really good!

My vote is in. Thanks to everyone for that feast of styles and playing. I thoroughly enjoyed the lot!
Norman
Very well done by everyone - I wish I could have been part of this challenge, the backer really rocks
-Zap: very stylish, I love that sound.. your playing is genius too, you fit it into the backer so perfectly
-Farl: another great sound, very round and full.. quality delay, makes those bends cry
-GP: scary sounds in the background, lol.. top playing, but I think the guitar is a bit too quiet in the mix, especially with those background sound effects
-zeusse: tapping! awesome zeussiness - nice whammy bar tricks there, you really sound like steve vai here! ...there's really a lot of variety in this track, great stuff
-RickL: another great approach, nice phaser sound.. the playing is just top notch, great licks man
-kirk: those whammy bar screams are so cool mate, there's a lot of screaming in here - harmonics, whammy - very nice
it was very hard to decide for one track here, we really have playing at the highest stage here, everyone did a great job on this challenge
tough decision, but I give my vote to zeusse - he really hit me with his style - vai-ish and tapping stuff, that's the stuff I like lol
thanks for everyone participating in this challenge!

Zappafan- I like your solo. I think your tone made it sound more haunting. Cool!
Norman- I like your motive. Great tone. I enjoyed yours a lot.
Zeusse- Glad to have you back! Great playing! Remind me of Burnin Vernon.
RL- I hope your fingers are better. You would'nt know there was problem with playing like that. Top marks!
Kirk- Nice tone. I like how you approached the breaks. Nice licks.
Hot dog!!! I can see I gotta start doing that thing people are always telling me to do... now, what's that called...? Oh yeah, "practice"!!!!!
You dudes are awesome!
Based soley on my mood at this moment (and the fact that Farley did not come thru with the 10 quid bribe I demanded) I'm casting my vote for Kirk.
Loved your tone, and that slightly staccato playing style. Very nice! 8-)

WOW this one is a tough one:
Zappa Fan: yes the tone you have is still sticking in my head..somehow I'd like to have some kind of version of that tone...and a mighty well played noodle
Farl: It must have been a good wheat harvest this year you seem to have a lot more spunk and creativity and are getting more comfortable with just letting it all hang out....the layered soloing on the last half really sets your track off
Guitarpima: It is a Halloween track and you definately but that theme in your track...well done
RickL: Sometimes I think we were actually brothers at some point and I just got left behind at the truckstop...You seem to interpret things the way I do and in my opinion do it better.
Kirk: What can I say dude you are just a pile of talent...ohh how I wish I could play like you when I was your age.....even at my age...man your good.
So as the burden of making a decision weighs heavily I'm going with Guitarpima because its a mood thing and capturing the Halloween spirit he has:chainsaw2:

Hell, I'm only three points away from the lead! LOL
Norman!
Okay, decision making time is up, and my vote is cast. The problem is that I wanted to vote for all of them but only one could get my vote, so, a big round of applause to all participants... you all deserved to win.

I agree that everyone did very well. I agree with Zeusse. Kirk has tons of talent.

We got so many great takes on this, I think!
Before giving a a thorough listen to all the takes I've decided to give everyone including myself, LOL - an assessment to include the good and bad points. I think I may do this on all my jams and competitions from now on, as it may provide a better idea to everyone on their takes and playing, at least from my perspective of things. I think it may more helpful for feedback, and that way everyone can see what things can work or not work well IMHO, that is if y'all don't mind. This backer was a little too long. It's easy to sound repetitious with a progression that just repeats itself, which is basically why I cut mine down to 3 minutes.
Rick L - YOU SUCK! LOL I think I could have benefited from a little more variety on this one. I have to get out of the repetition trap, other than the chorus part. Other than that, I'm pretty satisfied with a couple of difficult riffs I was able to pull off. I don't like a few spots where the technique just wasn't there, with some sloppy playing. There is one riff between :58 and 1:00 that I thought sounded pretty cool, although I don't know how I pulled it off, or how I'll be able to play it again, LOL - kind of like a flub that just happened to land on the right notes. I think if given more time and effort this one could have turned out much better.
Zapp - That WAS stylish, bro  That delay effect turned out pretty cool! I want that 2101, LOL. I'll be darned if that was noodling, so I wonder how it would have turned out if you would have spent more time on it! I do think that you should have put more complicated riffs in there, though - which would have sounded immensely cool.
Farl - You always have great tone, and the articulation in your playing has really been shining through! If you want, we could trade gear  I think I'm getting close to what I'm looking for using Amplitube with Sonar 4. I'm just an Adobe Audition addict, LOL! I have to agree with you though, I do think you could have done better - the lead was a bit repetitive and could have used more variety. I didn't call for any particular theme - the timing just coincided with Halloween, LOL. More complicated riffs needed IMO(I'm so demanding ). I do see that you're putting a lot more confidence in your playing though, and it has really shone through lately!
GP - Those background sounds were pretty cool, but did you make them from scratch or grab a quick mp3 to put in the background? In the past I have grabbed a few at a time, and played with them to make something kind of my own, even though I didn't actually record the sounds. I'm very impressed on how much your playing has progressed since I started at this site. I do have to say that your whammy bar and harmonic antics sounded pretty awesome! A bit of repetition on this one, the lead not loud enough in the mix, a bit of work needed on technique, Started the chorus with your guitar early at 3:38, but all together a pretty decent piece of work from you, bro
Kirk - This backer was made for you, man! This one had a lot of variety, and the articulation in your playing rules. Aside from one or two big flubs, timing, and a lack of presence or reverb, that was awesome! Very complicated runs executed with precision and great articulation. Dude, you definitely need to keep on playing bro. There are not very many people in this world that can play like you at your age. I would say you're somewhat of a prodigy! What would impress me even more would be if you could break out of that Satrianish style and explore other styles of playing - I think you have that one(Satriani style) licked already, LOL.
Zeusse - Bro, we have been graced by your return and given a healthy helping of Zuesse guitar! This one has a lot of variety and great playing! That wah was pretty cool sounding in there. I wish I could get some good wah. Everytime I try doing it, it just turns out sounding like crap. Maybe it's because of the way I play or something. There was a bit of excess repetition between 3:39 and 3:59, and the first dual guitars were slightly out of tune, but other than that, I thought it was an awesome take! We can always be sure to see great things out you, bro!
There might have been a few things that I overlooked, but the things mentioned were pretty much what stood out the most for me. I'm sure that things of a more technical manner could be addressed, but I'm not going to go there, since this has already taken up a huge amount of my time. I'm not even sure if I want to do this again, LOL - with the assessment and all. It's so much easier to tell everyone they did a great job...wOOt and all, LOL. Anyway, I think this one was a huge success. We'll keep 'em comin'!

Thanks RL.
I grabbed all the sounds but one off the net. I forget where. It took me forever to find the walking in the leaves sound at the begining. I found a sound and messed with it and made it sound like a crunching sound and mixed it with a sound I recorded with my cell phone. I recorded my food dragging through the leaves then emailed to myself. Others commented that my lead was low. It was intentional after the "I am Pain" to mix in with the torcher room sounds. The only other thing I wish I did was drop my low E down to D.

Thanks for the comments RickL.
I didn't however use the 2101 on this. Instead I used my trusty old Boss GT6. It was indeed noodling, all totally improvised live. I played the backer for about 20 seconds to get the key and a feel and help me select a tone on the GT6 then just pressed record and went for it. If I had taken more time I perhaps would have come up with some more complicated parts as you suggest, but I was under a bit of pressure here and didn't have much time so I just rattled it out. Overall I thought for a noodle it sounded okay. I may, now I have a bit more time try and come up with something a bit more fitting, it's a great backer and deserved more time to be taken over it. Although considring how much time I spent, about 10 mins from start to finished upload, second place in the poll, at the moment, isn't too bad :-) and shows I must have been on the right path.
Thanks again for your comments.

Spot on matey! I wasn't overly happy with it. I liked the tone, it was a stock one that I use. (I think...) but could have put more into the tune! A couple of the lead runs were OK but it was repetitive! So... you reap what you sow... I did it quick and got what I deserved, no points! LOL
A nice honest view! Cheers man!

Thanks RL.
I recorded my food dragging through the leaves then emailed to myself.
Hahahaaaa!! That is awesome! Were you able to eat the food afterwards?
zapp was fluid and dependable as ever.
everything farl plays just sounds bang on to me at the minute!
roberts initally didn't hook me then all of a sudden i found myself thinking damn this is so good, a little quiet!
I just want to sound like zeusse.
Rick LLLLL probably sounded the most polished to me, he does a couple of big bends that sound just like kenny wayne shepard.
kirk used his singing guitarist approach to great effect.
i wanted to voted for farl, then GP then i had to vote for kirk!

This has been an awsome challenge welldone to all who took part. I think in honour of a splendid job done by Kirk that a prize should be awarded.
So I will send Kirk some 6string goodies soon, I would send a set of strings but I only have D'Addario 10's let me know kirk if they are any use to you.
don't bother neil - the honour of winning is enough for me
Thank you to everyone who voted for me - and thanks to bigD for the thought!
