So... that is all 12 in no particular order!

I understand that it is going to take some time to listen to them all but please, people have taken a lot of time to do this so give them all a good airing and pick your favourite! Hard choice as there are some outstanding bits of work here. You guys never cease to amaze me with your talents! As hoped we have a broad spectrum of styles from the melodic acoustic tones through to the heaviest of Rock! Originals, covers and instrumentals! Fantastic variety! So... you guys really have your work cut out to choose but.... and I know you have heard this a thousand times before.... it really is the taking part that counts and .. you guys are brilliant for taking part! It makes it all worthwhile when we get a response like this! I know there are some who ran out of time but hey... next time perhaps. I'll do another soon as it has been so well supported.

Thanks again everyone! Brilliant one and all!

Let the show commence!

Holy Sh!t the first 8 I heard so far were freakin fantastic!!! I don't know which one I like best. All of them totally rocked in their own way. OMG! I can't believe how great you guys did on this...wow! Some major growth from everybody with these. Just unreal so far! Major props to all of you!

Ok, I said I was shuttin up, but I just can't. You guys (and lady) really did a fantastic job. Seriously! I've heard you all noodle around on here and post the occassional tune here and there, but this is just incredible. It's like Christmas for me to hear so many good tunes in one day. I've listened to each one 1 time and will download them the next time I'm here for sure. I just wanted to get an idea of what everyone did and wow...that's all I can say. Everyone did the site proud that's for sure. As a matter of fact, there's not a single submission that I didn't like. They all ruled for what they are and the styles you chose. Simply fantastic everyone! Thank you for sharing these tunes with us. :)

Visco - Great tune! Loved the rythm and lead and the vocals were spot on too! Was that reversed drums on the Vox only bit? Far out tune mate!
Big Doug - Ha! Out of the comfort zone! I was so surprised not only with your track choice but how well you did it! Cracking cover mate! Brilliant rock tones and I loved the solo! I nearly chose this one to do as well LOL
Kirk - A late entry indeed! Played with real feeling. Very moody and spot on mate! I hung on every note! Thanks for getting it in on time.
Guitarpima - I never know what to expext from you and that was yet another example of you taking a different tack! Loved it!, Brilliant "Live Jazz" feel to it.
Andyboy - Great! Loved the Texan feel and in fact the whole production and feel to the track! Full of energy! Stylish entry mate!
Rick L - I always love your playing and this one is no exception modulating its way around my sound system up at top volumes! Cool and funky indeed!
Vivienne - Beautiful acoustic playing and a beautiful voice. Very stylish and melodic! So glad you entered it. I take you wrote this yourself? Great entry!
Danny Danzi - "Magic Hands" indeed! Man you didn't hold back on the style or emotion with that track! Very very nice! (As I thought it would be!) If I could just play one of those licks.... LOL Thanks matey!
Helliot - I love that style of play! Very impressive licks and tones! That's such a nice tune! I'm going to be stealing a lick or two from that for sure! Brilliant stuff!
Jack - Man that made me smile! I was only listening to that earlier today!! Far out man and a fantastic cover! Cosmic indeed! What sort of Guru are you! LOL Great guitaring!
Stempy - I always look forward to your posts! They are always great fun! I guess you did both guitar parts (which were spot on!) as well as singing! Top effort mate! Top effort indeed! Thanks for the post!

Well.... I have an advantage over you guys! These are on my hard drive and I have now heard them all at least three times each!

I don't expect everyone to post a list of comments like this, just stick up what you feel about a track as you listen to them and take your time considering. I know that I'm not going to pick a favourite today. Too hard a choice! LOL

Thanks everyone for a top selection!

Andy and Keith- I love that song. Great take on it. Thanks for that.

Andyboy- Some great rockabilly there. It sounds like your having fun. Great job!

Bigdoug- Great tune! I enjoyed your take. If you used either a Pod or guitarport, could you post your patch. Well done!

Norman- Awesome! This brings back good memories. Thanks mate!

Kirk- I don't know this tune. Nice and soulful! Very well done!

RickL- It's a good thing you can Danny have different tones or it would be hard to tell you two apart. Great job! Was that a talkbox?

Helliot- Nice work! I hear a lot of things in this tune. Very southern rock.

Jack- That is very cool. I don't know what to say about it. Great work!

Stempy- Well done! I enjoyed it imensly.

Danny- Well done! Of course you are a great player. Could you tab out what you did at 2:22-2:25. It sounded really cool.

Viv- Very nice indeed! I really enjoyed that! What a refreshment for my ears. Thank you!

I love these challenges just for the variety of style and sharing talent. It would seem that 6 String Heaven is becoming more of a melting pot of style with a wealth of talent.

Well done everyone!

Jeez, much kudos to all of this guys. I downloaded them all and saved them to a seperate folder where i can listen to them whenever my mood flow changes!

Loads of great styles, fantastic playing and again, i'm totally staggered by the wealth of talent on show.

I've voted for my fav, but it really could have been any number of the entries. Definately, all are winners as there are simply no losers here.

A big well done to everyone of you for managing to raise the bar. :thumb:

Guys!! An appology from me! Lol I screwed up! But... luckily only with my entry! I posted the wrong version! It was my first take and I wasn't happy with the lead or the end so I re-did it but forgot to delete the first take! Damn! I was so concerned that I got everyone elses post right and in the right order tha I never checked mine!! Bugger! LOL

Anyhow, I'm not overly bothered about the voting bit but I really would like you to hear how I wanted to post it so, I posted the right one in its place now.

It screwed up the "views" count as well but that was looking odd anyhow.

Sorry for the er.... cock up! (there are no other words that accurateley describe it!)

My vote has been cast, I think I made the right choice but my mind is still in a bit of a daze as I took my wife to see Take That last night at the O2 and I'm still quivering from the sight of Sophie Ellis Bextors legs, she being the support act.

Oh, man. Just listened to the first four, and I can't imagine how I'm gonna vote for just one of the entire bunch. The guitar work in Hurricane alone is knockout. Back in Black rocks big time, and Fletcher Memorial gave me goosebumps. I loved the jazz piece too, though that style isn't entirely my cup of tea. But man, there's a boatload of talent just on the first four. Gonna take my time and give everything several listens before voting.
Great exercise here. Thanks to the moderators for putting it together.

Thanks, for the feedback and votes. It's really humbling and gratifying to be among so many great players and creators. I still can't decide how to vote. I have really diverse tastes, so love the shred stuff, the bluesy, rootsy stuff and the rockers. But I have to pick one, so will listen to 'em all a few more times and make a choice.

I'm just glad to see an acoustic number up in the lead, especially one with decent singing, there aren't many good singers round here. I don't really take my entry too seriously so don't expect anyone else to either, I'm a mere minnow in a sea of talent.

OK - Here's my skinny -

Danny D - Quite an arrangement with a cool backer I've had a lot of fun playing along with - great stuff there, you guitar monster you! Have you been listening to my tunes again, LOL? Sounds like my playing in a couple of spots. In which case, if it is - I'm honored! :cool1: If it was me, I'd be placing more emphasis on articulation, but you know me - I have to make a statement with practically every note in my playing, LOL.

Helliot - Gotta love the way that tune just flows! It has the feel  The strings are a little out of tune, but a few of the big time players do that too - like Angus Young. Holy crap - 17-1/2 minutes! Overall, just guitar coolness

Jack - Heavy doody backer - that guitar fits right in - I could reach nirvana tonight! Now, is that a real poncho, or a Sears poncho, LOL?

Stew - I can't tell you how impressed I am with this one, bro! You put in some great licks and have great sound! A wee bit too much delay on the vocals - don't be embarrassed to flaunt it! I listened to it through the right channel, and could hear it without the delay - which I thought sounded much better.

Farl - That tune is tops on my list, bro - now I want to do a cover on that one! I was expecting a slide in there somewhere, but do they make cider in bottles, LOL? Great TOP job, bro!

Andy - Friggin' awesome Delta blues jammin', my friend! Reminds me of Robert Johnson stuff - Hot tamales and they're red hot...! Oh yeah! My foot is still tappin'... :10:

RickL - This one had Steve Zane's backer for the Dec entry at GJ. In case anybody is wondering, that is not a talk box - It's the Phazer pedal in Amplitube 2. This tune is definitely not for the faint of heart. I don't expect much response out of it here - a little too heavy for these masses I think, LOL. But, if you crank up the volume...

Vivienne - If I were Clive Davis I'd have you in the studio right now with that voice! Holy Mackerel...

Visco - That Rockin' like a Hurricane tune is very ambitious, but you guys practically pulled that one off like you owned it! I think that singer is leaving his Oirish accent on the tune, and I want that sucker to sound sound like it has a heavy german draw, LOL.

BigD - Another very ambitious cover tune, but dude you gave it a run for the money! Of course, it doesn't hurt to actually have an SG to play it on, either! This one's a little out of your element, though.

Kirk - this tune was screamin' for you, bro! A little more sustain with some reverb and/or delay - it was a little too raw for me. Your guitar was beggin' for it! Ahh, the cries go on high... they call down the angels... There's another one I want to take to the studio...

GP - Nice production, bro! That background crowd was cool, the jazz part was friggin great, and the tone was awesome! The timing was off in a few places, but dude overall - well done!

Holy crap - how in the H - E - double toothpicks am I supposed to vote for this? You all deserve such huge kudos! I'm still perplexed...

Rick

....Farl - That tune is tops on my list, bro - now I want to do a cover on that one! I was expecting a slide in there somewhere, but do they make cider in bottles, LOL? Great TOP job, bro!

Thanks Rick, I don't have a slide, I tried a bottle neck but it sounded shocking so, I did me best to simulate slide! I actually still have not heard the original but I have a Lick Library lesson. I started to learn it 3 or 4 days before posting so.... I was quite pleased with the result! LOL Anyhow, it is a Farl version now!

Thanks for the kind words though.

Yikes -- 17 minutes? The tune is a little over 4 minutes long. Not sure how the file got to be 17 minutes, but the size is in keeping with the others. Weird technical thing I guess. Trust me, I wouldn't subject someone to 10 minutes let alone 17. Sorry to anyone freaked out by the posted length.

LMAO! That's what it just shows in my Winamp player, but as soon as it ends over the 4 minute mark, it goes back to the beginning. Must be some kind of glitch in the mp3 file that my winamp doesn't like or something.

05-12-2007, 04:28 PM
You may be right! There's rhythm, melody and bass adding up to about 12 minutes, and something like four minutes of fills and patches -- that's about 16 minutes. Freaky.

06-12-2007, 12:02 AM
OK. Tough choice but it wasn't getting any easier. My thoughts and vote:

Rick: Loved that piece. Voted for it. Hit my taste right on. Wanted it to be longer, and I thought the lead part was a little underneath in the mix -- not a lot. Great playing and tone.

Farl: I did turn it way up, and that really rocks Top-style. Nice tone and guts.

Andyboy: Not sure I'd call it Texas style, but it really rolls. Seemed like more of a rockabilly thing to me. Great lead tone.

Viv: Wish I'd had more than one vote. Gorgeous song. I'd love to record some tasteful acoustic fills sometime and e-mail it back to you to see if you like it with an extra guitar.

Jack: Nice Zappa-esque take on this.

Stempy: Great tone here

AndyKeith: Loved the lead guitar on this.

Doug: How do you look in shorts and school cap? Angus might take notice of this raucus cover.

Kirk: Really liked the melody and construction. Thought some of your melody notes were cut off a bit soon, would have liked to hear some more of them ring. Very emotional piece.

GP: Loved the live add on. And the jazz take was impressive, too.

Danny: What can I say -- you're on another level technically. Great piece of total shred, nice melody and great recording technique.

Very impressive bunch of songs here. Thanks for letting me join in.

bigdoug
06-12-2007, 01:31 AM
howard, you really dont want to see me in shorts  I can also say that Andyboys piece was called Texsas standard because it is the first piece he has done on the blade Texas standard pro that I sold him a couple of weeks ago and not because of the content as such, and very nice tones he got from it too.lol.

Thanks for all the kind words, the votes and for letting me be a part of this as well. I've been meaning to get on here and type out my individual replies about each song, but I've been a bit busy as of late. But as I said in my original posts in this thread, everyone truly did a fantastic job. I didn't just say that because it's the right thing to say, I said it because I meant it.

There are times on here where I listen to people and don't comment. But in my mind, I'm tracking their progress with each submission. I found lots of growth in quite a few in this as well as a few taking chances instead of playing it safe. There wasn't one bad song in the bunch and nothing that made me cringe. I think this little event showed how talented you all truly are and how much you've matured as players and musicians. That's the part I like...goingback in time listening to where some of you came from, then listening to your most current post. That's where you can really appreciate the growth as well as the talent and desire to keep at it.

So hopefully I'll be able to get back here and brag about each post, but until that time, know that I was seriously impressed by all 11 and voting was something I really wasn't looking forward to, to be quite honest. As a matter of fact, I waitied until someone posted something in the shout box saying they'd reveal who didn't vote. LOL! Not that I wasn't going to, but I really had a hard time with this due to enjoying the music so much that I didn't want to enter into the scheme that it was also a little friendly competition.

Though I loved them all, Big Doug's AC/DC cover and tone really hit me hard. That's not an easy tone to achieve. I also really enjoyed GP's post as it was something very different and live! I'll get back on here and post more comments about them all...I gotta get back to work....uggh! You all rule, thanks again for letting me be a part of this site! ;)

Well, I listened through each and every one of your songs. Some great work there!
I can see why Vivienne has so many votes. The vocals were really great, a true country voice, including some very tight harmonies. It's a Bob Dylan song, isn't it?

And Danny's thing was once again excellent aswell.
One thing that surprised me though... it is VERY similar to a jam I recorded a while ago over a Total Guitar backingtrack: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_songInfo.cfm?bandID=436524&songID=4800201
I think the chords and structure in Danny's backingtrack are almost the same as this backingtrack, and we seem to have very similar ideas when building melody over such a track. Right down to the tapping and slides, it seems ;)
