Until I find out how to rewire my cabinet is it safe for my amp head at 4 ohms to run into a cabinet that is 16 ohms?
the output transistor went on mine!
however i don't know if it was because of the difference in impedance!
but the guy who fixed it said it was likely.
here's some links that might give you some info

It depends on the head. You need to find out from the manufacturer.
I have a zinky BV and here's Bruces letter to me:
Hi Bob;
The BV speaker is 16 Ohms, so any single speaker you find will likely
be either 8 or 16 Ohms, in which case 4 or 8 Ohms will be the setting.
Now, you can try ANY setting with just about any speaker without
harming anything (on this amp- Don't try it with a boogie!) Some
folks like the way 4 Ohms sounds (at least at lower volume levels,
might get a bit mushy at higher volumes.
ENJOY!
