Highway Star

Whilst the young guns fire away at lightening speed melting their frets as they tear up and down the neck with frightening speed, accuracy and audacity.... I thought that those amongst us with a more relaxed and soulful style could take a crack at playing a blues lead. As blue as you like! LOL but.... once again.... do not post your atempt in this thread!

A vote is called for! so, if you fancy yourself as a blues legend then lay down some tuneful vibes please.

The Rules (Boring I know but... I will make them in this thread!)

This thread will close at 8pm (GMT) on Sunday 27th January
No time extensions for any reason (2 weeks is enough for a short piece like this)
Post entries to farley@6stringheaven.com anytime after the 20th as mine will be done by then so I will not have my though patterns clouded! LOL
No shredding!!!! (please...)
If you do not want to be in the vote then send it to me with JUST FOR FUN typed in your e-mail and I'll post that for peoples enjoyment only. That just about covers it I think other than.... Have Fun!

Hmmm.. I may be tempted to embarrass myself here as well i think...

Well, it'll make a change from embarrassing myself in public with my begging bowl..anyone else finding it tight after Christmas? My daughter has just told me that she has to go on a study course with her college to France....I personally think its a load of rubbish as shes studying mental health......and for that reason, why is she learning the French phrase for how many condoms do you get for a pound???:smilie_mondieu:

Good news guys! Very good news. I wish I could claim it but it was Doug's idea to ask our very own Blues Supremo Mr Paul Rose to judge the entries for this one little competition so.... Fire them over to me as before, I will post them all up without a vote attached and Paul will cast his expert ear over the results!!

Some very special Limited Edition 6SH Picks will be sent to the winner!!

Carry on!

I found a great lesson from guthrie in an old guitar techniques from over 12 years back, I was having a clean out, no I will start again, my wife was cleaning out my closet and this mag was stuck at the back of a load of computer crap etc..

It is a gt lesson including an mp3 backer using all 5 positions of the pentatonic scale, I know we are all used to using the first position but linking them all and mixing them up is really refreshing

Today was a sad day. My sons best mate and a good friend of our family was killed in a car smash along with another friend of my sons. He was a loveable rogue who stayed over with us, ate and drank here a lot and was treated as family. He will be sorely missed. A sad day indeed and a tragic loss of a 20 year old short life.

I'll get back to this challenge in a few days when I feel more like it. Anyhow... I have five versions in. Anyone else wanting a shot just sent it to me and I'll post them up soon but probably not this weekend as planned.

Very sorry to hear of this tragedy. As the parent of an 18-year-old, I can only imagine how tough it must be when the reality of mortality encroaches on these young lives. God Bless them all, and in particular those who have been lost in this way. For those of us with kids, and those reflecting on our own youthful days ... There, but for the grace of God ...

Well guys, tioday I picked up a guitar again. The Blues seemed the best thing to play so.... my attempt is done. That makes 5 for judging and one "just for fun" Which BTW I am really pleased about after all, it really is more abourt taking part and learning from other peoples efforts as well as our own. So.... are there any more people who want a stab at this?? I delayed the closing for a while say Wednesday night? Thursday Morning? Yep, After I get home from work on Thursday looks like a good time to post them up. No voting this time remember, Paul Rose has agreed to look at it for us and pick a winner!

Many thanks guys.

OK gang

I have listened to the Blues entries and have selected a winner and 2 runners up.

All tracks had positive attributes, but I have chosen the 3 that to my ear sounded as
though they had the best understanding of the blues genre.

So

in 3rd place, Stempy

in 2nd place, Rick L

and in 1st place, John Bruce.

Congrats guys, and I hope the other runners up don't all hate me.
