here is the very thing required to connect your guitar to the computer, a very handy thing used by a few members.

no idea mate just google it, I use this and its a cracking piece of kit, you can put a normal mp3 in and loop it or slow it to half speed. I never use my amp now I just have this connected to the pc and my hi-fi (but I have fried my speakers slightly)

they are basically the same thing, the main diffrence is that the guitar port has an internet connection and if you subscribe to their website you can download lessons and backing tracks. It becomes what I call a guitarioke machine where you have a full track with the guitars removed so you can blast along with the tab scrolling along on the screen, and it automatically loads the correct tone patch into the amp section.
If you look up the anything goes challenge and listen to me playing "back in black" it is all done on the guitar port, the playing is a bit dodgy but the tone is great (although I was playing it on an SG)

Davey, if you can sing you may opt for the Toneport. It has many of the same features as the Guitarport. The Toneport has a Mic in as well as a line in. Either would be good.

Sounds like a "must have" piece of kit.

Can you use these standalone without being plugged into a P.C. ?
i.e. I am looking for a solution so I can practise the guitar downstairs without spending 10 minutes unplugging the PODxt from the computer every time and unwrapping cables and such.
If you can only use it connected to a computer, then it wouldn't be useful. If you can however use it without connecting to the computer. e.g. guitar into guitar port, headphones, dial in a patch and away you play, then this would be a great solution.
I had one for a couple of days, you can just play it through headphones without pc

Ah cool.
Actually, I just found this on line6's website in the F.A.Q. for the product:
In order to access the optional GuitarPort Online service, you need to have an internet connection and an ISP (Internet Service Provider) for your computer. Any connection speed will do, but of course, the faster the better. You can also use all of the capabilities of GuitarPort, as well as jam along with any GuitarPort Online Tunes that have been downloaded, while not connected to the Internet.
So now I am interested.
