Hi guys!
I am planning into making a new scratch plate for my strat but since I can not find the colour I am after for sale (a beige/mustard) then I am seriously considering of making one myself.
Any suggestions as to what materials will be best and how to source these?
If possible I will go for more than a single ply but will wait to hear any suggestions first!

just buy a replacement part then spray it the colour you want.
Perhaps you'll find something suitable here>>> http://www.axesrus.com/axeplates.htm
http://www.projectguitar.com/ref/supply.htm
somewhere in there for sure

Thanks for those links! :thumb:
There is a lot of sites in those pages, it it tae a a while to search through them lets just hope they have the colours I am after, otherwise I will have to get me some tools ready... will it really work to spray-paint one?
If you prepare the surface properly first and finish off with a good, thick coat of lacquer it should be fine painted.
Zombo is the paint expert on here, perhaps it would be a good idea to PM him before you start... that is assuming you do not find a suitable scratchplate from one of those links.
Good luck with it.

yeah - sand it down until it's rough then spray away!

First of all you need to key the surface of your scratch plate I suggest with 800 wet or dry then you need a plastic primer to ensure the paint will hold.
Then I would suggest a coat of normal primer when it is dry rub it lightly removing any impurities. Then you can choose which colour you need and spray over make sure all your surfaces are cleaned off before spraying!

Etch primer is only needed on bare metal or aluminion surfaces Dave.

It doesn't have to be wet as long as the surface is roughened and able to key it doesn't matter just keep in mind the grit of paper you use.
You could also use scotch pads as well.

Righ! So I checked the links and didn't find the color, however I will see that I get a standard one without the holes to be sure(as the pickguard will be to fit on the FODIC strat) can you recommend any brands and/or stores where to buy the materials for this little project? I've done my bit of home decorating but nothing much on plastics yet so any more details will be ver appreciated.
Cheers!
