Ever fancied being a Latin Smoothie??

Have a go at this BT. I don't think we've tried anything like it before but, same as usual, e-mail them to me at farley@6stringheaven.com on or before the last day of March. If I've not got your entry on two minutes of Carlos style playing then I guess you didn't want a go but hey, try something different for a change! I'll post up all of the entries and this time.... we will all vote!

That's some mellow stuff right there... might have a noodle and see what comes out!

Actually, I've just been noodling over this as part of my scales practice and it was a lot of fun. Was using A Aeolian, B Locrian, C Ionian, D Dorian, E Phrygian and F Lydian. Ooh, someones been studying his modes...LOL

Cracking choice of backer Farl :thumb:

I have absolutely no doubt that I will be pleasantly surprised Robert!

I have the full BT (about 5 1/2 minutes) if anyone wants it BTW...

Phil you missed out G mixolydian? any reason?

Yeah, I'm extending my modal vocabulary a bit at a time.
My aim is to have fluent use of each shape before moving on to the next... no point in getting bogged down by too much at once.

Six I would learn all the shapes and work them all out. I see what your saying though. I practice all different forms I can and try to make them all work for me. I understand it all, to bad I can't play them as well as a lot of you guys.

Well I started out quite a while ago with just Phrygian... don't ask me why that particular mode because I really have no idea, then I learned Ionian and started figuring out ways of sliding or jumping between the two. I continued to add one mode at a time and get comfortable with it before moving on to the next, each time ensuring I could move relatively effortlessly between that mode and the one above and below it.
Eventually I should have fluent use of all modes and be able to move freely between them without thinking about the shapes.
Whether this is considered to be the right or wrong way of doing it is immaterial to me because it's working and that's all that really matters.
I just wish I had spent more time learning all this stuff years ago...LOL

I am kinda enjoying this one, am really trying to get that cArLoS feel but it's not quite hitting the spot. I am not really a fan of trying to emulate other players I tend to just do my own thing most of the time. Anyway here is is another take that I have rejected, but thought I would share it with you, including a couple of really bad mistakes, as I am having fun with it and thats what it's all about. I havent played much just lately and this really has brought my mojo and inspiration back.

Thanks Farl :thumb: Just what I needed.

I'll listen to this one in the morning.

Thanks Neal

The end of the month Robert. That gives you a couple of weeks to sort it out.

I just figured out how to seperate the multiple inputs. This card is really cool so far. I can record multiple inputs and use outboard effects as well with it. I'm supposed to be able to route through it via VST or a Send or something. I don't need that to finish the project though.

What's the recording quality like with your new card GP?

Yours is the Emu 1616m isn't it?
I have been seriously considering the Emu 1212m for a while now. I prefer the option of having left and right 1/4" jack inputs, not to mention that it's PCI so doesn't have to sit outside the PC base unit.
Aside from that I think they're very similar. I'd like to hear your opinion of the Emu cards before I commit myself.

Cheers

Yes it's the EMU 1616m.It's really to soon to make real judgments. The learning curve for it was a little tricky and I still have a lot to go. The mixer software for it has been the most difficult to understand. I know how to route it now. I don't know the effect part of it yet. So far I have to say I like what I'm hearing. I'll keep you posted though.

the 1212 i a great wee soundcard! main difference form the cheaper 0404 is that the jack inputs are balanced! this is only really essential though if your gonna plug strait into the card! to get the full capabilities of the 1212 you need to spash out on the daughter card and the same I/o box as you get with the 1616 (only limitation as far as i can see is on the digital front where you have less tracks to play with) at that point youd be better off getting the 1616 but for just a couple of inputs get the 0404 as its only 50 quid, has the same onboard capabilities as the 1212 just make sure you got a wee desk or pre amp first to get the most out of it! Oh and all the fx are routable through Vst so you get a load of decent fx with no worry of your cpu dying!
Back to the point in hand! im trying to work out a wee solo for this myself! its good fun:cheeky1:

My soundcard is an SB Live 5.1 with an EMU10K1 processor, and so far it's working ok for me using real-time plugins in Sonar Producer Edition 4 with WDM drivers where I plug in directly into the Line-in jack(1/8"). I've tried ASIO drivers, but they don't work as well as the WDM drivers on my PIII 850Mhz system. I'll be putting in a submission for this one, BTW

OK Matey! I'll try to get this sorted tonight but I'm away early tomorrow morning (walking down in Zombo land!! LOL) and not back until Sunday AM. Glastonbury tickets are on sale early Sunday and then we are taking a couple of foster kids out for the day so.... If I'm not done tonight... I may not get it done until Monday!!
