Hello everyone,
I really want to learn electric guitar. My favorite electric guitarists are BB King, SRV, Buddy Guy, Eric Johnson, David Gilmour etc.
How difficult is it for a fingerstyle player to learn electric guitars and be able to play Blues Solo? I only play with thumpick and three fingers and never learn to play with a pick. And I am very new to scales etc. I personally feel that learning online lessons could be a better option then going to private classes…Anyone here knows a good source for online lessons for beginners interested in electric guitars.
try www.licklibrary.com (http://www.licklibrary.com) these cost to download or www.daveweiner.com (http://www.daveweiner.com) riffs of the week are free
welcome to the site by the way
or as an alternative just randomly surf around here.
its free here as well.

I started with a mid sized classical guitar and no pick, and didn't actually start using a pick until I got my first electric guitar. I picked up a B.B. King Blues instruction book, and picked up from there without lessons.
Hey Mark....its your birthday too yeeha :11009:

Check out the Eric Johnson stuff, he uses altered picking techniques that are closely associated with fingerstyle, the leap from one to the other shouldn't be that hard. Just use a pick between thumb and 1st finger and then use another couple of fingers for picking out arpeggios and embelishments. If your finferpicking is already at a reasonable level it should be a piece of cake.

If you want to learn to finger pick, my advice would be to watch you tube videos of classical players as they are the best at it. good names are: Andres Segovia, pepe romero, John Williams and others. You could also watch Flamenco players as well.
As far as learning the guitar, the forementioned are good sources.

I think you misunderstood the post there GP, markolaw can already fingerpick on acoustic and wants to learn electric guitar / blues.

Thanks Zappafan. I did misread it.
I played classical guitar and the only problem I ever had fingerpicking an electric is the string spacing is more narrow. Other than that, it's pretty easy to get into it. You just have to maintain your nails more often.
