And at 6.30 I'm being picked up in the Rick-mobile! Rick & I are going wearing leather and lace for the real Vai-be!! Got a nice chiffon scarf from me mum!
Kaz who was originally going, will be sat with her feet up watching eastenders, and enjoying a nice glass of wine! Dirty rotter!! :D
Wish I was going again. Had a bloody excellent time on Friday. I was pleasantly surprised by Eric Sardinas the warmup act...the guy is an incredible rock/blues player that can do wonderful stuff with a slide or beer bottle if the urge takes him!
I think his hat is superglued to his head!
VAi is just on another planet and the solo spots of the rest band are worht the admission fee in itself...hope the Manchester gig is as good

it's 10.25 - and Steve Vai is probably still playing as I write this! Rick & I walked out after about an hour - or 6 "songs"?
What a twat!!! I've never before walked out of a gig - but to be honest I just didn't get it. The band members were very talented, and occasionally Dave Weiner(?) played some cool riffs but Vai was just off on one! Making lots of noises from his guitar but in absolutely no context. His mum should have bought him a synth! Like a solo with a song in the middle. But with no song?!
He is a very talented man, I think and amazingly quick - but Steve? Play some Rock n Roll! He introduced it as a rock n roll show and played neo classical noises and widdled like buggery! Sorry guys - I know some of you really love his stuff - but it was like a heavy metal jizz, sorry jazz fest! I really don't get it.. :wall: Loads of people were in the foyer and drifting to & from the bar. That would never happen at a real rock concert!!
BUT - Eric Sardinas - he ROCKED!!!! Bought his CD on way out & me and Rick re-enacted waynes World on the way home! 8)

disappointed to hear this as I was hoping for you to experience the beauty that vai can be. however, sadly also not too surprised.
Vai is out to lunch with the harmonic at present and exploring new areas which means that his performances are like his last album, ok for your a fan but not for a via newbie who needs the songs (and tone) to entice him in.
I'm sure you woulda loved him if you saw him in '93 or before.
(awaiting the daggers)
Thats a shame I would of liked to see him play his well known tracks, maybe boring for him but thats what the peeps want surely
a track that resembled a track would have been cool.
it was like insane noodling.
hey whats with the whale noises.
i have to say the second track they played was half way decent i thought hmmm good night ahead!

Enjoyed the Metal night DVD you sent (from 1992) - good rock & roll! Tonight he just didn't do that! Shame!

Sorry to hear you didn't enjoy the show, i had a fantastic time on Sunday in Nottingham, i totally missed Eric Sardinas as my train was delayed by an hour!, i only got there 15 mins before Vai came on.
The only problem i had on that night was as soon as the show finished the fire alarm went off, so i wasn't able to buy an official t-shirt or Dave Weiners CD. However the night ended beautifully when i was able to get my photo took and various album covers signed by Steve Vai and Dave Weiner, after waiting round the back for a while.
Really dissappointed to hear about your experience guys.. Idid , however, think the first part of the show was a bit weird but he played more and more of his well known stuff in the last 1hr 30mins. The second song in Glasgow Rick was Km Pu Du Wee off the latest album and is the standout song of the album...I didn't really recognise any others in that first 1hour though!
I think to be honest you missed an experience in the later parts of the gig.

For me, the gig was simply amazing..........loved the acoustic set, he even played songs from Flex-able, speechless. For those of you who say he should have played more of his well known stuff, well he did. Do you actually own or listen to any of his albums? I can't see the point in going to a gig & not knowing the artist's music, completely pointless.
Yeah I thought the acoustic set was fantastic and solos by Dave Weiner, Tony McAlpine and Billy Sheehan were incredible.... Jeremy Colson's drum solo was unbelievable...
Eric Sardinas should be checked out. Fab support act!

i think its called trying to broaden your horizons!
in this case it didn't work because in my honest opinion listening to some guy making a guitar feedback for 5 mins and sticking strings to pickups ain't to hot!
it wasn't only us when we came out the lobby was full now that doesn't strike me as catching an audience!

Flex-able mate, I have been too Glastonbury, Donnington, and Reading/Leeds festivals and there have been bands on that I have never heard of before playing and after hearing them live made me buy their albums. In my opinion its the best way too get introduced too a band by hearing and seeing them live
hmmm thats also a weird outlook on bands flex-able as well.
i like nothing more than finding a band.
eric sardinas was a find, awesome player gripped the audience and played music recognisable by people not orbiting planet vai

Count me in on that one too its those puffy clothes I suppose I have seen Satriani 4 times and once I was dying for a pee but it was worth getting wet for!
Seemed like Vai shot himself in the foot any more comments about the gig ??? But after reading a bit more it seemed to get better ?????
