To make a long story short: I've left "sure it's Neal" a few months back after 20 years of playing together and I joined "Solid State" last friday...

we want the long story Marcel  good luck with new band mate!!
OK, the long story:
I left the band 2nd half of april. We didn't have a fight but my way of making music was just too different. The week before my leaving, we had a meeting of our direction and there was no place for my old school rock-influences. The new direction will be more modern rock like...
After having thought of this for a couple of days, my main motivation for leaving is that guitar playing is a true hobby of mine and I love that hobby. I don't like to be directioned in a way in which I wouldn't enjoy making music as much as I did. In fact, they ordered strict guidelines in what I could play and what they didn't want me to play....
The main musical difference was the approach to music:
- For the rest of the members, the goal of making more modern rock music was a higher priority than the feeling, personal development and input of the individual players.
- My approach was that everybody needed to feel fine and contribute to the music and that the music would be a rich mixture of everybody's contribution instead of a forced direction.
I told my decission in the beginning of that particular rehearsal night. We discussed it fair and open. After that we shared a lot of old memories over the years and at the end of the evening everybody had a good time.
I'm still welcome at the siN-forum and will contribute to it from time to time. Next to that, I'm also still welcome as a guest to their rehearsals as all our previous bandmembers are. We still maintain friends.
As soon as I left the band I started searching for a new band. Faster than I could believe I saw a request with a band who was up to the semi-finales of a dutch coverband competition (Clash of the Coverbands).

I called the singer and we had a nice conversation.
The music is quite different than what I used to be, but I can be happy with that.
For example: My new band covers "Simple Minds - Don't you", but now it sounds like this example recording on a backing track (forget the quality of this fast recording, it's just about the idea):

And next to that, there's Green Day, U2, Blur, Lenny Kravitz and a lot more!
that must be pretty trippy.
i'm sure it'll all work out for you guy and like you say your influence will shine through!
