well the instrument shop in maidenhead town centre is having a sale.
its a piano store mainly, but they stock loads of electric, acoustics and electro-acoustics. they have a lot of not-so-good stock but also a few nice mid-range fenders and some really nice acoustics.
its usually horribly over priced, but as they bought so much stock that people dont want, they're putting it on offer, along with a few tastier guitars to draw people in. i know the people who work there, and he tells me there's a fender on sale at £99, so i'm going early to try and grab it. they're being really secretive about what is going on offer and what isn't, so i'll just have to go and try my luck. if i cant get a decent electric i'll try to get myself a nice acoustic, but £99 seems too good to pass up.
ill let you lot know what i manage to get my hands on :-)
EDIT: didnt mention the name of the shop...its Sheargold Pianos, and their website is www.sheargoldmusic.co.uk (http://www.sheargoldmusic.co.uk)
hmm link won't work http://www.sheargoldmusic.co.uk/t-£99_guitar_sale.aspx

hmm :/ thats not good.
not the best idea to promote a big sale but not have the link working for people to find out about it.
they aren't really the best with promotions and marketing.
hopefully the website is working properly for the weekend, then you guys might be able to order online if there's anything you fancy.
If you want to grab a bargain then it's better for you that they're not good at promoting. Good luck to you.

my thoughts exactly :-)
as i was saying to lyle earlier, if i cant get my hands on the fender i might try for one of the ibanez (aparently theyve got a few on sale, and a couple of nice ones too)
it might all be crap and just be a lot of £150 guitars reduced to £99, but we'll see.

You know the old saying, if it seems too good to be true etc, hope you do get a bargain though. I'm sure they are LAG guitar agents, try a LAG while you're if they have any, you may be pleasantly surprised.

yep they have many many lag guitars, and some of them ive tried in there arent too bad at all so if i cant get a good electric, i'll see if i can find a nice one.
i might end up getting nothing though, but if not i will spend the £99 on some other gear (perhaps get a pedal im after)

well the fender they had on offer was an acoustic. they had a few nice guitars but nothing that interested me too much, although i played pretty much all of them. the good ones went within the two hours i was there.
but instead i got convinced to put down a deposit on the strat i've been going in there to play for months lol. its £409 i haven't got, but I went for it anyway.
its a '60s classic player reissue, the price in the shop was £499 but i haggled down to £409 for the guitar with a free set of strings, and i can get a hard case with that for £50. not a bad deal I thought. It's one of the best strats i've played myself for under £1000 to be honest, it's really well built and sounds great compared to a lot of the '60s reissues i've played.
the neck just feels so perfect for my hand and fingers, it just works with me so nicely. the bridge pickup isnt too trebly as they can be on strats either, its just right. i love it!

i can't describe how nice it is in the flesh/wood.
as i said before, it just works perfectly with my hands and my ears. its got weight to it, which i like, i like to feel the weight of what im playing, and i think it also helps to give it a fuller tone, which is great for my tastes.
tomorrow is the day i sort out the credit for my payments on it, hopefully i can arrange to set up a direct debit and bring it home with me in the week. ive never been so excited!
