I don't think we need to be concerned, it may have a 'sort of' guitar sound but somehow it just lacks the visual impact of a guitarist doing his thing. Interesting enough in its own right I suppose but no threat to guitarists.

Yeah, it still sounds way too synthy. I think Guitarists will be replacing keyboardist first, what with midi synth technology progressing the way it is

They do, or at least they did make a guitar shaped keyboard. It was the Roland Axis. Although he wanted 61 keys which the Axis did not have. I saw Keith Giuffria play one in concert ages ago. Totally blown away with his skill on the keys.

as long as people play guitar on keyboards like that, there will always be a need for really guitar players to remind people that there is a difference between a keyboard player and a guitar player.

There are a lot of stuff you can do on your guitar that these keytarist can't do properly. Think of harmonics, dive bombs, the sounds of almost hanging strings and so on.

People who don't know which richness a guitar can give will be easily replaced by keytarists...

I pretty much agree with all you guys..nothing can replace a live perfomance from a guitar player.

I personally think the sound is getting more near every year, but i find the attack is where is the problem. The attack is still fake..you don't hear the pick.

Se what I'm talking about in this video:http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=p4FxETYJjtU&feature=related

hmmm, its really cool, sounds like some great keyboard playing through an alright VST patch, but to my ears it doesnt really sound anything like some great guitar playing through a great guitar and amp. or even through a VST patch a guitar sounds totally different.

personally i think the keytar is a gimmick. its literally just a keyboard plugged into a computer which is set up to give it a similar sound to a guitar. its not a guitar in any way, theres just a bit of software on the end.

i mean if the keytar is a legitimate instrument, so is the keybass, keydrums, keyophone, keypet, keybone etcetc. basically with midi software now, it can sound like almost anything you want it to.

but that doesnt change the nature of the the instrument itself.

in my opinion, its all just keyboard, luckily keyboards are brilliant and endlessly versatile instruments which can sound similar to others.

Can it mix legato, alternate picking, heavy palm muting, harmonics natural, tap, pinch and artificial? no I doubt it...it won't be on my Christmas list ever that is for sure.

Yes it can..lol I saw a few other videos where did that.I guess it's a cool tool for the musician that doesn't play guitar.

Yes Steve but like you said before there is not discernable pick attack so there will be something lost to a listener.
