You're not wrong there Shaun, there really is a lot of variety in the way everyone has approached this challenge. Different playing styles, different tones, some fast, some slow... all slightly melancholy :-)

Great work by all concerned. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to each and every one but someone has to get my vote, and that someone is... Myuzishin. Well done dude, you should join in more often, you have great technique and feel.

veeery nice stuff, nothing bad going on there at all.

the one that caught my attention most and stuck in my head, and that i found i could listen to as a song in its own right, is GP's solider's lament. just has a really haunting feel to it with the harmonies, which i love.

Ha!! Beats me! But... you have about 6 days 18 hours or so to make your mind up! LOL

Brilliant stuff in there especially as it could have ended up as 10 mournful entries but in honesty I listened all the way through to all of them more than once each and found them all really uplifting and you could hear the effort that went in. Very cool entries my friends... Very cool all of them! From the cool Sax sounds from Birdland, the drummer boys drums (GP), Six's chugging backbeat, and that's just picking a few, no favouritism because I equally liked Myuzishin's version, Rob's great playing, RickL's sublime playing, Zapps skilled well woven take and Robbo1's awesome playing and then there's Mr Smith, way cool from him as well!

Bugger! Ha ha!

Oh well... I'll have another listen....

I can't decide either. :hammer:

Everyone did superb! I made a few quick comments though. I have to take all this in before I vote though. Whoa!

Birdland- Very interesting approach. I felt like I was in a New Orleans funeral procession. Well done!

Mr Smith- I like the tone you chose. Very cool licks there with a great build up at the end. :10:

Rick L- Nicely done my friend! You had a great build up as well. :10:

Phil (six)- An Iron Maiden'ish approach I thought. Well done all around. I love how you blended everything together. Especially the harmonics. :10:

Zapp- Was that the Zta3 or whatever that synth is called? Very cool! Great licks my friend. I'm glad I helped you find your Mojo. When all else fails, look behind the desk. LOL! Well done!

Farl page- I really enjoyed your playing. I hear Page in your style! I think I can almost pick you out anywhere now. Great job! :10:

Myuzishin- Great phrasing and technique! I love how you went from lead to lead and made even more intersting as it went on. Very well done! :10:

Robbo1- Another great treat to hear you play. That bluesy style combined with a modern aproach really sounds great. :10:

Rob- Nice one! I really like yours also. Your tone is cool and the licks were great. I especially like the release at :53. Well done! :10:

Again, Well done everyone!

:10: :10: :10: :10: :10: :10: :10: :10: :10: :10:

I guess 10 was the perfect amount of entries 'cause this one is a 10!

That isn't a synth at all GP it's all guitars matey, with a little help from my GT6.

Glad to see so many entries to this, have just downloaded them all and am about to go through the hard task of picking a winner. A toughie no doubt but I am sure I am about to be knocked out by the entries from all you guys.

BTW big thanks go to Farl for organising this, top man !! :thumb:

Great challenge Farl, and nice to see so many players having a go.

I had a good listen to them all and can't say a bad word about any of them, so varied, but the one that jumped out for me was 'Birdland' well done mate.

Birdland: the sax is great
Farl: the tone is fantastic and very atmospheric too
GP: I loved the drums and could see me marching along to this.
Mr Smith: an Auto wah? great use of scales the others didnt reach was my first favorite
Myuzishin: I love the way you play great ability and tone
RickL: What a start and some great licks
robbo1: loved the melodic feel, nice tone and great chops my new fav.
Six: Oh man right into NWOBHM groove GP was right very maiden..fantastic
Stonefree: A bit like Farls superb tone and a great atmospheric feel to it.
Zap: A lot going on there and I thought it was keyboards too, loved the tone, the delay and the melody...a new fav.

after much swithering I have gone for robbo1 but it was a close call with Zap, six and Mr Smith.

My vote is at long last... cast!

I really liked them all but I kept on coming back to one of them. I know there are ones that are technically better played (sorry Robert...LOL) But the Soldiers Lamente just, for me, had that little something extra about it. Niceley done my friend!

BTW... 19 people have viewd this thread and 11 have voted so.... more votes still to come.... I hope....

All of these are terrific!

Birdland, I liked the sparcity and atmosphere, very effective use of space. A neat approach, nicely done.

Farl, killer tone (that seems to be the theme here lol). Nice melodic stuff, a bit of delay woulda sent this into the Gilmour zone.

GP, lots goin on here, but well done and complimentary. Meshes together nicely. Cool melodies in this.

Mr Smith, some good lines here, nice phrases. The wah was pretty cool, added a neat flavor.

Myu, it'd be a bit silly for me to comment on this. Conflict of interest and such. I will say ya coulda done that last solo better.

Rick, that first blast caught me off guard the first listen, ended up really diggin this. Lead tone is killer, great stuff!

Robbo, can't say enough about yours, loved the leadwork here. Schweet!

Six, liked the heavy rhythm ya added, as well as the harms and dives. Lead tone coulda been a tad cleaner, but the playin and note choice is great!

Stone Free, sweet and simple. Some nice emotion here, well done!

Zappa, very cool take on this. Liked the delay, makes it kinda eerie. Great jam!

Clicked on Robbo this time, but it was a tough choice. Great challenge, glad I got to participate :-)
