Justin Hawkins, ex frontman and to be honest... the driving force of The Darkness has come up with a new band.... Hot Leg, a band that plays, in Justins words "Man Rock". To be honest our Justins voice is a bit like Marmite.. you either Love it or Hate it! LOL But the guitarist Peter ‘Liquid Guitar Hands’ Rinaldi is, it has to be said, one hell of a player! Hawkins finished his stint in the priory and no longer does drugs, doesnt smoke or drink, eats healthily and excercises!! A bit of a change there then!

Expect 2 albums in 2009 but, prior to that, here's the single "I Met Jesus" I really like it!

"I've met Jesus, and he's nothing like you! (There's no resemblance whatsoever!)"

Haha!

Ya know Farl, I was told by a very reputable producer friend of mine that Justin had some very serious work that he was having shopped to many labels. They all turned it down. It was then that he started the whole joke thing about not taking the music business as serious....being commical, doing the almost Tiny Tim thing on his vox etc....and the next thing you know, The Darkness was one of the hottest bands around.

That producer friend of mine actually sent me a cd of the stuff that was turned down by the labels. It makes me want to shoot someone...that's how good it is! The guy is really a good and well controlled singer...but the more serious and professional he sounds, the more the industry looks away. Go figure!

This new band is pretty decent and that guitar player is an animal! Cool tone, great lead playing and he's perfect for this band. That finger picked lead style is pretty brilliant as it's not something you hear much in rock....so you never know, this very well could catch on. I still think this type of music may be a little too comical to take seriously, but I thought that way about The Darkness as well. The thing that may be a bit tough here is...as popular as The Darkness was, when they fizzled out, they really went down like a led zeppelin and people mocked them pretty bad. This very well could turn into a joke that no one bothers to care about. I sincerely hope not as I have never hoped a person would fail regardless of what style of music they play. I hope this turns out to be as successful or more than The Darkness was. Thanks for sharing. :)

Christ i just realised i saw them gew weeks ago supporting Extreme and had no idea it was Justin but thought how utterly remarkable the singer was. The guitarist is exceptional no question about it.

I thinik they will be big. Hawkins could be another Stephen Tyler! Depends (as Danny said) if he gets taken (or if he takes it) seriously. Saw him on TV talking about it as if this is what he has been working towards all of his career!

I think he made a bit of a fool of himself doing the Eurovision Song thing. So much so that he wont be taken that serious any more. His mockery of the music business could also be taken as a slight mockery of the buying public too. At the end of the day they pay the bills and if they think you are just getting a free ride of messing about then they will disappear into the hills in the blink of an eye.

The Darkness are a prime example of a band alienating there own audience by crass stupidity. They had it all going and then fooled about with stupid stuff and now they have to try and do it all again.

I think not.... What killed the Darkness was Justins demise into Drug addiction and his only way out was to get totally out of the scene and, fair play to him, he has cleaned his act up. Part of the allure of the Darkness for me was not just the wicked riffage but the very fact that they never took themselves that seriously. I thiink they were a refreshing change with a good dose of honesty in their lyrics, in fact, the lyrics were bloody good (well apart from Black Shuck.... you know that is a Suffolk legend from just down the road from me... they were Suffolk boys that went to the local school) but hey... each to their own. The Eurovision thing was bad but... bad advice when his head was on upside down and back to front. A second chance will be given I think. At least it should be.

I take your poiint, but the drug addiction thing stiill comes under the banner of crass stupidity to me. I certainly dont feel sorry for him after he gets hinself in such a situation. I dont think people take too kindly to seeing people have it all and then throw it all away by excesses. I sure dont, I work hard for my money, as we all do, and I certainly wont be giving Justin any more of my hard earned cash to shove up his nose.

Harsh... he was an addict before the fame. Once hooked they do not want to be addicts and I think the days of "sticking that f***ing shit in my arms" as he eloquently put it are hopefully long gone. I have no desire to fund someones drug habit but, as long as I buy music then some will get blown up noses or into veins.... fact. It's the curse of the industry. Second chances are needed, ask Paul Rose.... he was very eloquent about his plight earlier in his life as well. I have a relative that is a crack addict. Stupid stupid boy from the outside but he has no idea what he has done wrong.

Harsh maybe, but would you are I be given the same second chances in our given professions. I doubt it.

The comparison to Paul's earlier days is not a fair comparsion. My understandng of that is completely different.

Anyway each to their own eh ?

I do agree that guy in the video is a cool guitar player though. I like that style he has and very different to hear it in this genre of music.

It'll be good to hear some top guitar playing in the mainstream again.

Great stuff. I don't know the players but great musicianship.

Although, if he means it, I've met jesus, book him a room in the booby hatch.

I always relish seeing the free and open discsussion of ones thoughts and ideas regarding a particlar subject. It makes one happy to be part of the human race and to see that the art of conversation, albeit in a virtual way, hasnt been killed off completely.
