i am having a late xmas splurge for myself and to improve my Pacifica. but could do with some advice maybe before i do.

looking at planet waves auto trim machine heads around £50; http://gear1music.com/Planet-Waves-Auto-Trim-Tuning-Machines/M/B0002E2N90.htm?traffic_src=froogle&utm_medium=organic&utm_source=froogle-GB&id=uk

wilkinson knife-edge 6 hole tremolo , around £40 - http://www.guitar-spares.com/index.html?lang=en-uk&target=d503.html

possibly a new/better nut , but not sure what type,(roller?) need advice.- http://www.guitar-spares.com/index.html?lang=en-uk&target=d503.html

and a better string clamp on the headstock, (with roller?) need advice,http://www.axesrus.com/stringsetc.htm

if there is any money left then MAYBE a Bareknuckle Abraxas Humbuckerpickup. no urgency though. (more overtime required, lol).

is a £100 investment on my Yamaha Pacifica 112. sensible ?
any advice welcome.

my pesonal choice would be too leave the pacifica alone. I am not a big one for modding my guitars so I would keep the money and put it towards a guitar with the required things you want as standard

that said all the things you have listed there all look like reasonable quality components, would they make your guitar seem significantly better to play, i doubt it, so it's quite a lot of money for very little return

just my opnion of course

no, what works for him may just work for you

Lyle thinks that the wilky trem string spacing is wider than the standard spacing on the pacifica.
so this is something i will have to check out fully.

You may want to check out the GraphTech site, they do kits for strats and strat clones that might include everything you want.

I've used the Planet Waves locking tuners to good effect. Also a GraphTech Trem Nut and the roller string trees you mention. Be careful with replacing the tremelo bridge as the hole spacing and string spacing needs to be pretty well spot on to avoid a lot of filling and drilling. Wilkinson stuff is pretty good, make sure you get one with a steel sustain block. Another thing to check is the depth of the sustain block as it may foul the back plate if it's bigger than the standard item.

i would be temped to just leave it alone, they are an ok guitar.
to be fair you have to think what is it that you are not happy about with it?

I'd ask the same question, what is it about the guitar you don't like? Personally, If I had a guitar where I was not happy with the tuners, the nut, the trem, the locking device at the headstock and possibly the pickups then I think I'd sell it, put the £100+ I was going to spend on it with the cash from the sale and go find a different guitar.

You could also look from the other angle that if you really like the guitar, its tone and playability, but are concerned with an issue such as tuning stability then there are things that can be done to improve it.

when i first got the 112 i removed the trem arm, as using it put the tuning out all the time. that was over 1 yr ago.
then i saw this Howard guy raving about the improvements that 'could' be made. i just thought it might be a good idea.
but i'm happy to play it the way it is. don't really need a trem anyway, it's not like i willbe playing 'eruption' anytime soon.
i have been suffereng a bit of GAS lately, i was looking at this as a bit of a 'methodone' cure. lol.

maybe i should leave it alone and save up for a PRS SE . :)
