what a shame :(
He was regarded as a maverick within the music industry and battled with drugs and alcohol throughout his life.
gets you in the end, something to think about lyle when you are famous and everybody around you is doing a line!
waste of a talent i guess, 60 is very not old at all.

I got to see John Martyn a couple of times back in my youth. An immensely talented guy. Seems like it's always the good ones that go first.

Radio 1 have just played a John Martyn track and had some chat to mark his passing, much Kudos to Mark Radcliffe for not letting this pass without showing some respect to the guy. They told a story of John Martyn and his bass player, who were quite the hellraisers when on tour years back, visiting a pub for a pre gig drink. The bass player ordered the drinks, paid for them and then placed £100 pounds on the bar and said, "thats for the damage". to which the pub landlord replied, "there hasnt been any damage ?", the bass player replied, "oh !! there will be !!".
:-)
weird I never heard of him either, just watched some vids etc. didn't ring any bells and first time I heard him mentioned on this site but that happens a lot, I guess I need to broaden my listening horizons, seems I miss so much good stuff.
