well my sound city combo has packed in again. that's the second one i've gone through.
the first one broke, and then broke again on the day i got it back form being repaired, so it was replaced.
the replacement broke and was repaired, and has blown three fuses since then, and then finally in the rehearsal the night before the gig on saturday, it broke again.
and just to top it off, the company has gone bust.
it's a shame as the amp sounds/sounded great, for a £400 40w valve combo it sounded amazing, but i guess the cut price was due to a cut in reliability, and now im in a gigging band i just cant risk using it any more.
so, anyone want to buy an amp? :P
on the plus side i ended up using a 50w mark 4 model, from somewhere in the early '70s, much more reliable and sounds great, which i may be buying for £300
I had the same happen with my Peavey Classic 30, which i have since sold. Broke down twice, repaired twice (same problem btw). I'm now using my Blackstar HT-5. Phenomonal little amp, and insanely cheap!

Cheap?
Cheap?
for what you get it is insanely cheap yeh cos it has all teh architecture of the dual pedal plus the amp adn cabinet and is a phenomenally versatile little amp. We even whacked it inot my 4x12 cab you would not believe how good the sound was!!

yea I believe it!! Ive heard and read the reviews but the cheapest I could see the 5w head for is £250 dont know how much the cab is, I wouldn't call it INSANELY cheap, the blackstar pedals aren't cheap either. Most of the big names in amp manufacture are bringing out these 5w heads/combos and I would say £90 was cheap.
Great sounding amp tho, I like the idea of the shaping control.

Sorry to hear your amp broke again. Dont forget though that the warranty is with the manufacturer and not the retailer. So give Sound Coty customer service a call and tell them your troubles. make sure you tell them the history of the situation, play hell up and get your money back. Tell them you have called trading standards and that they have recommnded you contact them to give them a chance to sort the situation before you embark on legal action to recover your money. Also mention that it would seem that after the number of faults it would seem that the amp is 'not fit for purpose' as it was sold
Always worth a try.

great advice, and that was my plan, but it was the Sound City company that went under, not the retailer! all the retail offered was the name of someone who might be able to repair it
im not surprised it went under if more of their products are as unreliable as the two i've had the fortune of sampling.

I just realised that it was Aribiters that were doing the Sound City stuff. They have been around for years and were one of the UK's main distributors of musical instruments. Shame they have gone. I know that doesnt help you in any way. If your retailer is still trading they too must share some of the responsibilty for the repair of this amp. Plus they know the history of you situation with this. I'd be standng in their shop asking them to sort it or give me a refund.
Best of luck.
retailers are responsible for a 6years not the manufacturer 1year guarantee and if "not fit for purpose" you are entitled to money back. So if something packs in after 366 days retailer is still liable.
this is a nice amp for the price
aprox £120 nice cleans too

yea i phoned the shop and all they did was offer me the number of an amp repair guy, but the man who deals with guitar and amp sales wasnt in, so i will certainly be giving him a call, armed with the information you've given me there.
thanks for the information, supportive as ever, thats what makes this site one of the best ive seen!
