Where to start....

Well.. when we got the real bad weather 2 weeks ago I lost my phone line so of course my internet connection... 2 hours later the phone and internet worked but the phone had a hiss and the internet cut in and out.

Next morning I had a phone but no internet connection... 5 days passed then Orange (my ISP) said all was OK into my house so, £80 later a new super duper Belkin wireless router was installed and hey presto! internet on all the laptops in the house but not on my main tower that I use. It would not see the wireless network at all whatever I did also, the download speed had dropeed from (on average) 150KB/sec to around 25 KB/sec! Bugger!

Next I fitted a new Belkin wireless card to my PC... Great! I could now connect to my tediously slow system.

Now the chaos started... my daughters boyfriend came round, an IT specialist and all round geek (in a nice way) he looked at it to set up a password for the network. A waste of time as I live like in the middle of nowhere! LOL and... My PC then could not see the bloody network again! 2 hours later and I got back to my unsecured state again!

He happened to have with him a version of Windows 7 and Office 2010 (legal copies....) so we decided to update.... bad decission!

I bought a 500 GB hard drive for £70 (bargain!) and coppied over my music files and Word/Excel files etc. Cleared my hard drive and started loading Windows 7, the computer switched itself off... tried several times but, the computer turned itself off... bugger! So, back to the recovery disc and re-installed my PC with XP as it came loaded with 2 years ago!

Re-installed the Belkin router and Belkin card
Re-installed the virus stuff (found a ver good free one called Avast BTW)
re-installed my line 6 UX2
Realised I had now lost my recording options (Lyle has my Magix 12 disc and Audition 1.5 was a blagged copy) Bugger!
Got a 30 day trial of Adobe Audition 3.0 and installed that (very good!)
Updated the line 6 stuff (3 bloody hours to download it is so bloody slow now!)
re-set all my sound systems
Re-installed office 2007
Retrived all of my stuff from the new hard drive and hey! it all worked but still slow.
Bought a new filter... no difference

So... I now have a very clean PC, all my old music files are safe, internet is working (slowly), I can play guitar through the Line6 stuff and I can record! Nearly a result!

The 500GB hard drive seemed excessive right? Wrong! I partitioned it and a friend er... modified my Wii, I now have 25 or so games loaded on a hard drive with a new option on the start up menu! LOL Another 30 games coming as well so, it went quite well in some respects. Hard to modify are Wii's....

Anyhow, off to disconnect everything from the phone line now and try it with just one phone connected and see if it is still hissing... then phone the telephone line supplier now to get the line checked...

Nice relaxing couple of days off right?

Hope you get sorted Farl, sounds like you are having a bit of a nghtmare time with the PC.

IT Specialists, like all trades, there are good and bad, in my experience those that feel the need to put 'specialist' in their job title fall into the latter.

My daughters boyfriend sorted it. it took hours of fiddling and I have no idea how he did it, It can also fritz your Wii if you get it wrong but... it works perfectly! (and still works with normal discs as well). Half of the time those humorous little Japanese fella's who cracked it (the Home Brew Channel boys http://hbc.hackmii.com/) had it so that if you did not use their channel for loading the screen and controls flipped so my friend was hacking the Wii upside down! Started at about 11 am yesterday and, after copying a load of games he had it all sorted by 5pm.Not running HomeBrew but a modified version of it. Brilliant lad! He then went home, missed the M25 turn off and got lost! LOL Brilliant at some things....

I also bought a couple of the motion plus controllers and the whole set up is a hoot! Resident Evil is class but even things like Table Tennis (I bought a motion plus games pack as well) is brilliant. Great fun all round.

I'm kind of realising the simple truth of that statement. The amount of times I heard "hmmm... that shouldn't have happened" yesterday was astonishing! LOL

Sounds like you should go to the pub. I think what you need is Gallagher's sledge-o-matic. That would fix it right up! LOL!

That Wii link does not work. I'll do a search though. That sounds very interesting.

I now have the option of a 100 pin game... Mad! LOL

It is because of the motion plus controllers I'm using

I use Scroogle (not Google) and key in the Home Brew Channel...

Scroogle because Google stores all of your search stuff, scroogle does not and... Scroogle always has a funny homepage! LOL Go to www.scroogle.org (http://www.scroogle.org) and click on scroogle scraper...

I've not tried the 100 pin bowling yet. I've been on the golf course and got 7 under par for 18 holes! My son likes the dogfighting and the bicycle races which he always wins.

Wii mod chips have been around for a while, my bro first told me about them around a year ago, just after he'd picked up an R4 cartridge for me... or rather, for my Nintendo DS, which of course I only ever use to play backed up copies of original games which I paid full price for

They're everywhere!
