View Full Version : ******LIVE VIDEO JAMROOM******
the video jam room is now open!
i thought i had best just clear a couple of points up. i'll do it like a question and answer thing.
Q: I don't have a webcam can i still use the jamroom.
A: you don't need to use video in the jam room, you can just play using audio or not if you wish whatever shakes your tree all you need to use it is flash player. www.macromedia.com/flashplayer/
Q: i went into the jam room and couldn't use the video or sound.
A: Click settings and check allow flash to access my webcam and audio.
Q: If i put a backing track on can 2 or more people jam on it in real time!
A: 2 people cannot jam at the exact same time on the same track however you can trade licks etc.
the jam room and 6stringheaven.com currently run on a server in LA so if you think my sound has to go from england to LA to say singapore then back to LA then back to england so i think that answers that.
Q: I really suck at guitar and if i go in the jam room everybody will take he piss.
A: this just doesn't happen infact i think that it makes you improve because generally if you are stuck with something somebody will help you and its like having your own guitar teacher at times.
Q: I don't have broadband or my pc is older than r/2e
A: chances have it it won't work all that well however there is a text type thingy and you could just sit back and listen to everybody!
Q: Am I protected against wierdos.
A: Yes generally 6stringheaven.com is free and easy without lots of rules to bog it down, however when i initially planned the jamroom i was worried about the seedier things in life coming along to plague it so all conversations are saved for a period and copies can be requested if required.
Q: sometimes it sounds like im going out of tune ie the pitch raises.
A: hmm yes it does and its being worked on updates will be installed when available.
if you have any other questions please fell free to private message me
just thought i had best reaffirm a couple of things
you don't neeed to have a webcam, or even have sound to contribute to the chat room!
You also don't have to play if you don't want to.
I've had it mentioned to me that people won't go in because and I quote "I really am not that good and don't want to make a fool of myself"
Well take it from me, this simply won't happen as well as being great fun at times the video chat room is also great for use as a teaching aid, by this i mean its as good as having a guitar teacher, try it ask a question and somebody will show you!
Also if you don't want to play then it doesn't matter.
the chatroom is open all the time and is for everybody please enjoy it.
I'm currently doing i huge upgrade to the chat room, so it may be offline for a while!
I will inform you when it's up and running properly again........
thanks
its up and running :)
just need to add the who is jamming box.
Just uploaded three new jams please enjoy!
jamroom will be offline for a few hours today while i do a major upgrade!

I just thought I had better post a couple of notes up regarding the latest version of the Jamroom software that we have just installed. This new version has some slighly different ways in which to control your audio input to tha Jamroom.
It is no longer necessary to use the "auto" tick box to turn on and off your input indeed in some circumstances these controls will no longer work at all.. You should now use the controls that are in the video windows on the left hand side of the screen. Even if you donr have a camera you can click on the small arrow in a video window, this will turn on you audio and, where appropriate, your video input to the Jamroom. Once this has been done a small control panel appears at the right of your video screen. This has contols to turn off the video and also a mute control for the audio. Once activated your audio should show up on the VU bar below your screen. There are also two slider controls located here. The lower of the two is used to set the overall volume of your audio signal that is fed into the jamroom. The upper one sets the auto level control, this sets the sensitivity of the audio. For example in some circumstances you may be playing a passage that has quiter sections within it, at the point you reach the quietr peice the signal would drop below the level set here and would not therefore be fed to the Jamrrom. So use this control to determine the levels required. This control is really designed to be used with a microphone for speech input, so that when you stop talikng it cuts the signal to reduce echo within the room but it's ideal for setting the level when you playing to a backing track. I would suggest you experiment to get the optimal setiings when you play and all should be well.
One other point here is that you can use the controls located on another users video screen to mute / unmute their audio.
I hope this helps give you a handle on how the new version works and hope to see more of you making greater use of this facility that 6stringheaven provides for your enjoyment.
Dont forget to respect the other users of the jamrrom and give everyone a chance to play if they wish.
Have fun.

Jamroom Downtime !! Rick has been kind enough to let me upload and install a new version of the jamroom software :thumb: So whilst I have a go at this I suggest you all join me in a nerve settling :drunk:
Obviously the jamroom will be out of action during this upgrade, maybe for several weeks  , so talk amongst yourselves whilst I take the server down :hehehe:

ALL DONE, and back online just some tinkering required to get the MP3 player and that working again.
Thanks
ZappaFan
Zap the Bonjovi mp3 never played to the end of the song, can that be looked at please.
do you have a full backing track stew?
there will be a bit missing off the end
Jamroom fully functional and ready for a get together. If leaving please use the logout button top right hand side otherwise it would appear you are still in there and it leaves others joining you dissappointed
Bump just to remind everyone use the logout red button not the X close. That way if anyone wants to catch someone in jamroom chances are if it says they then they will be.
its back, get yourself in now and get plugged in.
