Just taken possesion of a 2004 Les Paul Standard, vintage sunbust in almost brand new condition....Gorgeous. I thought I might fit the pickguard- and this being my 1st Les Paul was totally ignorant of the fact that you have to drill holes into it - EH?!
It looks just fine without it thank you very much.

Got 3 Gibbos. I'd say noooooooooooooooooooooooooo to pickguard if not holes already no way !!!! They dont need them my Standard and classic have not wear from picks and you get to see more quality wood.

Congrats on the new LP! I have a 1979 LPC. It has the pickgaurd on it and I can't take it off. The moron before me messed up the top.

I'd route my initials instead of putting a pickguard on lol

If you were hell bent on trying the pick guard on it then you dont actually need to drill the body. You could use a really fine double sided tape but it could possibly lift the finish if left on too long and you wanted to remove it. But that is the alternative to drilling.

Good double sided foam tape would be ideal ;-)
and in the red corner against wood showing in its full glory screwed into the wood
Mind you pickguard on this one does look good but its the exception.

I love the look of em with a pick guard...
have to agree with everyone if there are no holes then it was not meant to be so leave it alone bud

:argh1:
Last time I drilled a hole in a door to fit a lock I accidently left the drill on hammer setting .......
They look good with pickguard I think - but without also- almost like a different guitar. Someone on a Les Paul websight wrote that 'taking your Les Paul out withiut a pickguard fitted is like going out without underpants on'
Well you don't have to drill a hole in your butt to put underpants on I say - so no Pickguard .
You can go commando . No underpants = no pickguard:)
